Most football fans that aren't fans of the Minnesota Vikings generally know just enough about Randy Moss to shoot their mouths off about what a terrible person he is/was/whatever.
Fans of the Vikings, on the other hand, know better, and another exhibit of that was on display on Friday night in Pelican Rapids.
Moss was there to hand young Kassi Spier her high school diploma following her graduation from Pelican Rapids High School. Moss and Spier became friends during his rookie season in 1998. She was diagnosed with leukemia in 2000 (when she was four years old), and her father died in a car accident in 2004. On top of all that, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2013.
But she fought through all of it and graduated from high school on Friday, and her friend Randy made sure he was there for it.
Nobody knew that Moss was going to be attending the graduation until right before it started, according to the principal of the high school. Still, that seems to be in keeping with the way Moss did things as a member of the Vikings.
One thing I'll never forget about Moss, did so much w/ kids but wanted no attention for it. Often said if media came, wouldn't do it.

Watched him give away bikes in field house one kid at a time. Spent time with each one, signed autographs, gave new bike. No attention.

Very few players did more for the community in the Twin Cities than Randy Moss while he was there. Of course, media types across the nation (and, quite frankly, even locally) couldn't be bothered to mention any of it, even after the fact. Sure, when he made mistakes, they were always there to attempt to rub his face in it (partially because "Randy Moss" and partially because "Vikings"), but again, people that actually followed Randy Moss and the Minnesota Vikings really did know better than everyone else on that subject.
Kudos to Randy Moss for sticking with his friend Kassi through all of her troubles and for making the trip to be there on one of the biggest days of her life.
