Super Bowl or Rings for Former Players Game

Harvin, McKinnie, Birk, T-Jack, Heath Farewell are just a few examples of former Viking players moving to other teams that managed to win a Super Bowl. I know I'm missing many more and that list will be completed in the comment section so we can have a comprehensive list.

Who would have thought that Jared Allen would have a shot at earning a ring once he spurned the Broncos? Did fate and good karma provide the path to a ring for the former Viking great? He could not have known it would play out like this, a chance to go out on top of the league and get paid!

How about the much maligned, misunderstood, and loved Joe Webb? Joe Webb was always a gifted athlete who did what he could for the team to win. He found a coaching staff who finally figured out how to best use his talents (much like they did for Ted Ginn Jr.) and now he has been a first vote invite to the Pro Bowl for special teams play and has a chance to win a Super Bowl ring to wave in the face of those who thought Ponder was the better player and would have a longer career in the league (PPB has that list fellows no flip-flopping).

How about a player who flashed in preseason but was cut? Kurt Coleman signed in April of 2014 and was waived on the last cut before the regular season as a corner back. That is an example of one who got away.

The Panthers signed Allen Reisner (not currently on their roster) and recently poached/coaxed David Yankey off the Viking's practice squad. First the Ravens then the Seahawks (Viking's West) and now the Panthers (Viking's East?), a short trend of teams making their respective path to the Super Bowl after signing/trading former Viking Players. Short sighted GM decision, poor coaching, or just the way things go, but it has happened more than once which makes it a trend.

The Broncos actually signed Christian Ponder on November 25th as a backup QB which would have made for better debate if they had not waived Ponder on December 8th. Help me out if you know of a Viking connection with the Broncos other than Gary Zimmerman (ugh. throws up in mouth every time seeing him in orange).

So it all boils down to who do you have in the biggest game of the year - The Carolina Panthers or the Denver Broncos to win it all?

Joe Webb
