Moritz Boehringer: The sleeper to end all sleepers?

It's surprising this hasn't been talked about much around here. For those who don't know who Moritz Boehringer is, he is a wide receiver from the German Football League. 2015 was his rookie season. He is eligible for the NFL Draft due to his age, and is a projected 4th or 5th round pick. At least 7 teams are interested, including the Vikings, who are going to meet with him soon.

So why the hype about a guy who played in a league that's equivalent to D III college ball? It's because of his impressive measurables. From NFL.com

Officially at Florida Atlantic's pro day, Boehringer ran a 4.43-second 40-yard dash, had a vertical of 39 inches, a 10-foot-11 broad jump, a 4.10-second short shuttle, 11.15-second 60-yard shuttle, and a 6.65-second three-cone drill that had scouts on the ground doing double-takes at their stopwatches, shaking their heads, and laughing. He also had 17 lifts on the bench press. All of these marks would have landed inside the top five among all wide receivers who tested at the NFL Scouting Combine in February. And his 40, which was run on grass, is about the equivalent of a 4.39 on turf -- a time that would have tied for second among receivers at the combine.

He's also listed at 6' 4 1/2" and 227lbs. Going further on about him, again from NFL.com

In the field drills, Boehringer caught every pass thrown his way despite some adventurous tosses by the quarterback. Scouts were curious if he had ever faced press coverage so they asked a couple of the defensive backs there to press him at the line of scrimmage, and he had no problems releasing. At least two teams wanted to see his blocking techniques as a tight end. And when he was coached up, he was able to immediately make corrections.

This all makes him an intriguing prospect to say the least. So why should we care? Well as I said above, the Vikings have visit scheduled with him. And we all know how Zimmer and company love to have raw athletic talent to draft in the mid rounds of the draft, drafting both Hunter and McKinnon in the mid rounds of the last 2 drafts.

This guy sounds like a guy who would be a good investment. He's only 22 years old, sounds very coachable, and is a pure athlete. The only real knock against him, and it's kind of a big one, is that he only has 4 years of football experience, and hasn't played against anything close to NFL talent. Whichever team decides to go after him, should do so knowing he's a long term investment, as he will have to adapt to NFL speed, learn an NFL play book, and get used to the physicality in the NFL.

So is he worth a 4th round pick? Look at the Highlights and decide for yourself.
