Finding one voice

I am not a reporter or a statistician. I am just an Uber-fan that is as dedicated to a team as I can be. I read every article and listen to every podcast. I check all of the sites, every day, to see if any new stories are breaking. I love to hear the prognosticators adding up the chances that our team continues it's direction towards the Super Bowl; The promise of a team on the rise under the tutelage of a superior coaching staff. We are finally in a position to make a run at the Super bowl for, not only now, but many years to come.

The thing that drives me crazy, and the reason for this is a thing that I've noticed when I read articles on the Star-Tribune as well as comments made on other Vikings related articles. I am talking about the sad sack. The Eeyore fans that are more chicken little then any other fan base in the NFL. The "fans" that can't quite see past the dark cloud that looms over their purple colored umbrella. Our team took the NFC North, winning 11 games, under the helm of a quarterback that was experiencing his first full season as a starter not mention a new coaching staff. He played with poise and discipline. He didn't command the deep ball, but he never lost us a game. Yet, there are still critics that are not satisfied because he doesn't throw the long ball. Bridgewater was sacked and pressured more than any other QB in the NFL and still he was one of the most accurate QB's in the NFL.

I organize the largest meet up in California of Vikings fans. We meet every week in a bar filled with Raiders, Packers, you-name-it fans that have no respect for the Purple and Gold. Yet we have filled it with fans, assembled from all over California. We cheer, win-or-lose, the team that we have grown up loving. It takes guts to be a fan in unfriendly territory. But we do it because it means that much to us.

I think it's sad that fans IN Minnesota are having a tough time being positive about a team on the rise. I know it's a Minnesota thing to see the glass half empty, but from the perspective of a fan in a distant land, it's time to be a real fan. Wipe the slate clean and start sending some positivity into the air. We are a team on the brink of something special... don't be the last to give in and let your optimism overpower your cynicism.

That's all I got. I just want to reason with those that don't see what I see. There's a lot to be excited about. We all back our team, we all get the benefit of enjoying the success together. Skol. In one voice, we say it with pride.
