Christopher Gates posted an article asking if any of the eight Vikings draft choices had a chance to make the opening day roster, and that got me thinking about the undrafted free agents. History tells us that at least one usually makes the team and several others make the practice squad. If I remember correctly, Taylor Heineke made the team as the 3rd QB last year. Adam Theilen made the team in 2014.
Here are the 2016 undrafted free agents currently on roster:
Baxter, Keith CB
Cockran, Theiren DT
Carter, Kyle TE
Ham, C.J. RB
Ganus, Jake LB
Michel, Marken WR
Perine, Denzell DE
Pressley, Jhurell RB
Roberson, Tre CB
Stave, Joel QB
Stoudermire, Troy WR
I think this group does not include a player on the opening day roster unless an injury were to elevate them. Perhaps Pressley, Cockran, and Stoudermire have an extreme outside chance to beat out a current backup. My guess is that this group of guys are all focused on showing enough in the preseason to make the practice squad. A couple of them may someday contribute to an NFL team. Any of these names spark any thoughts?
