Easter Mock Draft

Happy Easter!

Here is my latest mock draft as I am sure if you're like me you are dying for some entertainment between now and the actual draft. Can it just be draft day already?!

Ok here we go:

Fanspeak Board

TRADE!

2nd Rd #16 & 6th Rd #15

to Kansas City

for 2nd Rd #27, 3rd Rd #40 & 4th Rd #25

2nd Rd #27

Dion Dawkins G/T Temple

Position flexibility to play Guard or Tackle and immediately starts at RG. Also becomes the backup RT in the event of an injury. 2 birds with one stone.

3rd Rd #15

Chris Wormley DT Michigan

Immediate starter at 3 technique DT. With Floyd's career possibly over and neither Shamar Stephen or Tom Johnson as the solution I get one of the better Defensive Tackles in the draft. At 6'5 298 Wormley has ideal size for the position and is equally effective against the run and pass. Instantly improves the run defense.

3rd Rd #22

Marcus Maye S Florida

He's equally comfortable in the box or playing deep. One of the better tacklers at the safety position in the draft, he's fundamentally sound and was a team leader at Florida. His equal adeptness in coverage & box skills will also allow Zimmer to use he & Harrison Smith in a variety of ways that can confuse offenses.

TRADE!

3rd Rd #40, 4th Rd #25

to Pittsburgh

for 3rd Rd #30 & 6th Rd #29

There is a rush on LB'ers at this point and so I moved up to make sure I get one of my guys that can man the WILL.

3rd Rd #30

Duke Riley OLB LSU

He can play in the Middle or Outside but for the NFL he projects best as a WILL and that's what we need. This is a guy who shows the speed and coverage skills to stay with the more athletic Tight Ends and RBs in the league. This will allow the Vikings to stay in their base 4-3 more often to help stop the run. Last year Greenway was exploited badly in this area. Riley will turn that weakness into a strength for the Vikings defense.

4th Rd #13

Josh Reynolds Texas A&M

I'm not sold on Laquon Treadwell and I don't think the Vikings are either after watching Spielman go after Alshon Jeffrey in Free Agency and hearing Zimmer talk this off season about wanting to get more guys who can "stretch the field" at WR. That is exactly what Josh Reynolds did at Texas A&M. He's tall (6'3) and has decent speed (ran 4.52 at the combine) and has outstanding ball skills. A deep threat and red zone threat all in one. Needs to probably put on 10 pounds (194 lbs currently) but he would allow the Vikings to move Diggs to the slot where he can do the most damage.

4th Rd #21

James Conner RB Pittsburgh

Conner is a big back (6'1, 233lbs) who wins in short yardage can catch out of the backfield and pass block. He's not a burner but what he'll do is give the Vikings a red zone/short yardage back and most importantly gives the Vikings 3 RBs in Murray/McKinnon/Conner who can catch the ball and pass protect. This makes the Vikings unpredictable no matter which RB is in the game.

5th Rd #16

Jonnu Smith TE Florida International

Speedy Seam buster (ran 4.62 at the combine in the 40 yd dash) who knows how to block too. Needs to be more consistent with his hands but can come in right away and help with zone blocking concepts. One of the few Tight Ends in the draft familiar with pro style blocking schemes. He'd allow the Vikings to line up Kyle Rudolph out wide where he's most effective in the red zone.

6th Rd #29

CJ Beathard QB Iowa

He can compete with Taylor Heinicke for the 3rd string QB spot and is a guy who can be developed over time to challenge as a #2. What I like most about him is that he has played in a pro style system already and is just as comfortable under center as he is in the shotgun so he has one less hurdle than most prospects left on the board at this spot. Doesn't turn the ball over. Makes good decisions, keeps his eyes downfield and was a team leader. Needs to work in his accuracy but he's a guy you can work with as a 3rd stringer with some upside.

7th Rd #14

DJ Jones NT Mississippi

6'1, 319 lbs. A Nose Tackle. He would be the backup to Linval Joseph. He has the physical tools you want from the position but needs to work on his technique and consistency. We have great D-line coaches here in Minnesota. If I'm taking a 7th rd pick it might as well be a D-lineman.
