Gonzo's Fourth Annual Super Ultra Mega NFL Draft Grade Extravaganza
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this is the fourth NFL Draft that The Daily Norseman has been around to cover for fans of the Beloved Purple from coast to coast and border to border. And it's been less than 48 hours since the 2010 version of the NFL Draft reached its conclusion, which can only mean one thing. . .it's time for people to evaluate the draft classes of every team in the league.
The grades have not been terribly favorable to our favorite team thus far, from everything I've seen. Mel Kiper from ESPN.com gave us a C- mark (can't link to it, since it's on ESPN Insider, but that's what he gave us). Someone named Rob Rang from NFLDraftScout.com has given the Vikings a B-. Pete Prisco from CBS Sports gives the Vikings a C+. There are lots of other draft sites out there as well, all of whom have their takes on the Minnesota Vikings 2010 draft class.
So what's my grade for the group of young men that are set to be the newest members of the Minnesota Vikings this August? Well, go ahead and hit the jump to find out! Oh, and you might want to grab a beverage and a snack. . .this is gonna be a long one.

2010 Draft Recap, Minnesota Vikings Edition
Well, the 2010 NFL Draft is a wrap, and the Minnesota Vikings have some new faces to get used to. there were a couple of surprises, some things that transpired were expected, and every team in the NFC North looks different than they did on Wednesday night. How did the Vikings do overall? Let's take a look, shall we? But first off, hat's off to Gonzo for putting up some info of each draft pick the Vikings selected, almost as soon as their name was turned in. Way to moderate the board and keep us up on current events as they happened, Gonzo. Now that the shameless butt kissing is over with, let's get on with the review.
2010 NFL Draft: Minnesota Vikings Begin Signing Undrafted Free Agents
Well, the draft is over, and now the meat market for the guys that weren't drafted is officially underway. Here are the guys that have found their way to Minnesota, via various sources.
R.J. Archer, QB, William and Mary
Thomas Austin, G, Clemson
Matt Hanson, T, Midwestern State Tommy Hernandez, C, UC-Davis
Ryan Perriloux, QB, Jackson State University (yes, the same Ryan Perriloux that got kicked out of LSU for allegedly failing a drug test) May or may not be true. Waiting for something more firm before I "uncross" this one.
Aaron Rhea, WR, Stephen F. Austin
Ray Small, WR, THE Ohio State University
Terrell Skinner, SS, Maryland
Kelton Tindal, WR, Newberry
Angelo Williams, CB, Ferris State (Save Ferris? Save Ferris?)
Marlon Winn, OT, Texas Tech
There were rumors going around that the Vikings had signed Oregon RB LeGarrett Blount (and his right cross), but Childress and Spielman have stomped all over those rumors, from all accounts.
That's what I've got so far. If you see or hear anything else, go ahead and drop it in the comments section, and I'll put it up here.
2010 NFL Draft: Minnesota Vikings Select Rutgers LB Ryan D'Imperio With the 237th Overall Pick
With their final selection in the 2010 NFL Draft, the 237th pick overall, the Minnesota Vikings completed an. . .interesting. . .three days by selecting Rutgers linebacker Ryan D'Imperio.
D'Imperio stands just a shade over 6'1" and weighs in at about 240 pounds, and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.69 seconds. He had 76 tackles last season, with eight tackles for a loss. He also had a sack, three passes broken up, and an interception.
And that concludes the 2010 NFL Draft for the Minnesota Vikings and their fans!
2010 NFL Draft: Minnesota Vikings Select Penn State TE Mickey Shuler With the 214th Overall Pick
With the 214th overall selection in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings have selected Mickey Shuler, a tight end out of Penn State University.
In his career at Penn State, he had 27 receptions for 300 yards and four touchdowns.
Woo.
Minnesota has one more selection left, and that's at #237 overall. Stay tuned to see what happens!
2010 NFL Draft: Minnesota Vikings Select Alabama-Birmingham QB Joe Webb With the 199th Overall Pick
With their sixth-round selection in the 2010 NFL Draft, the 199th pick overall, the Vikings took a developmental quarterback by nabbing Joe Webb from the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
Here's what Mocking the Draft had to say about Webb.
Webb could be yet another Wildcat quarterback candidate. He's a good all-around athlete and makes a lot of plays with his legs. Plays in a gimmick offense. Will throw too many passes into coverage. Has played wide receiver and that may be his better position in the NFL.
Wow. . .certainly not the most encouraging scouting report you'd ever want to hear. Apparently at his Pro Day, he did work out as a wide receiver.
Myron Rolle, who darn near everybody in the comments on the main Day 3 thread is completely sold on at this point, continues to slide down the board.
Minnesota has two more selections remaining, both in the seventh round. They are #214 and #237 overall. Stay tuned. . .maybe the Vikings will draft someone we've heard of with either (or both) of those selections.
2010 NFL Draft: Minnesota Vikings Select Minnesota LB Nate Triplett With the 167th Overall Pick
The Vikings got pick #167 as a compensatory pick, which means they couldn't deal it away. They used the pick to select a hometown guy in Minnesota linebacker Nate Triplett.
Triplett stands 6'3" and weighs around 250 pounds. He projects to be an inside linebacker, and had 105 tackles, 5 pass breakups, and 2 interceptions last year for a Gopher defense that. . .well, let's not sugar-coat this. They were pretty bad.
I was really, really hoping to hear the name "Myron Rolle" with this pick, but we did not.
As of now, the Vikings have three picks remaining. . .a sixth-round selection at #199 overall, and two seventh-round picks, #214 (received from Detroit) and #237. Stay tuned to see what they do with those picks!
