Vikings Embarrass Themselves; Lose to Redskins 32-21

Yeah, my watch might only say 10:50 PM, but midnight has officially struck for the Minnesota Vikings.

The scoreboard might have said 32-21, but if you didn't see the game, don't kid yourself. . .it wasn't THAT close. The Vikings 7 first-half possessions went as follows:

-Interception
-Safety
-Punt
-Missed FG
-Lost fumble
-Interception
-Punt

It's really, really hard to win games that way.

I just can't believe that in a game that meant THIS much, that this team went out and played THIS badly. The offense was terrible, the defense was terrible, the special teams were terrible, the coaching was terrible. . .other than that, things were alright.

It's a damn shame that Viking fans couldn't file a class-action lawsuit for emotional pain and suffering. . .if we could, every damn one of us would be filthy rich.

Going into next week, the scenario is simple.

-If Washington beats Dallas. . .who, in all likelihood, will be playing their second string after Green Bay's pathetic performance allowed them to wrap up the #1 NFC seed today. . .then everything is over.
-If, by some wacky coincidence, the Redskins LOSE to Dallas and Minnesota can beat Denver IN Denver, Minnesota makes the playoffs.
-If both Washington and Minnesota lose and New Orleans can beat Chicago, then the Saints will be in the playoffs.

But the Vikings no longer control their own destiny, and that's what really kills us here. A win today would have put Minnesota into the playoffs for the first time since 2004. Instead, there's a very real chance that we're looking at staying home for the playoffs for the third consecutive season.

A day of anticipation and hoping. . .and it's repaid with that. I can't believe it. The more things change. . .

Ah, well. . .the sun has already gone down tonight, and since I'm relatively sure that it's going to come up again tomorrow, life is going to go on.

I have to admit...

they even had me lured into believing....it's hard not to after a 5 game streak, in which the QB that I have questioned since day one is starting to play better, and making me eat crow..

well, the last two games tell me that I am not that far off yet on my predictions all year that Jackson is not capable of leading a NFL team...his QB play makes it easy for teams to scheme for our rushing attack....until we get a QB that makes a defense respect the passing game, you can expect games like this...

defense played hard, I thought, but can't be continously put into bad situations by turnovers...

I hate the Bears, laugh at the Lions, and wipe my butt with a Packers towel.

I hate to say this...

But I kind of expected it...

I've been a Vikings fan way too long to know that they'd suck enough to get a good pick or to believe that they'll actually put together an end of season run that could last into the Playoffs.

That and what little Faith I had in Tarvaris Jackson and our Defense was shot to shit yesterday.

Here's to hoping Donovan McNabb is wearing Purple next year.

I think it's safe to say TJack needs some bench time to learn behind a veteran.

McNabb can't throw in the pocket, and the man has lost his mobility. And when is the last time that man's completed a full season?

What T-Jack needs to learn is judgement. And not to throw the ball while jumping. Judgement you learn by playing, and not jumping while throwing the ball you learn by doing sprints up and down the field for punishment. Honestly, the best thing he could do after the season is over, is sit down with Jaws and go over every inch of tape.

Quite Frankly...

Everything we've seen from Tavaris Jackson has led me to believe that he's best suited as a "game manager" and even that is still a few years off.

I don't care what you say, McNabb would definitely be an improvement. Then again, Shaun Hill would be an improvement judging by the way he played for San Fran a couple of weeks ago...

I dunno, there is still a glimmering ray of a little bit of hope, but It's a long shot

Enough To Go Around

I can't believe we made Todd Collins look like a damn Hall of Famer. I know we didn't have AW but still. I'll give the D a pass for this game though, seeing how they've really been pretty great for most of the year.

Now, I agree with Phenomenon and think TJack needs to sit on the bench for at least another year. At least...... I'm not going to pin the everything on him though. Our receivers stunk up the joint last night. Rice is the only starting caliber guy we got and of course, he was hurt. Wade is our next best but he's a 3rd WR at best. I think that might even be too kind.

I'm going to assume we miss the playoffs. We couldn't beat the Collins led 'Skins in a game that meant everything. Why would we be able to beat the Broncos in a game that could mean nothing? So where do we go from here? I'd prefer not to draft a QB so what do we look for? DE? WR? RT? FS?

This post would be better if I wasn't screwed by the refs!

A little different take...

As bad as the Vikings played, and it was abysmal, the challenge for 12 men on the field was the key play of the game. (I didn't realize you could challenge for penalties).

I find it very hard to fault the defense. Yes, there were some errors, yet they were defending a short field most the night, and did more than enough to win.

I question the coaching/play calling most. Also, TJ needs to learn to take a sack once and a while.

If these 2 teams play 9 more times, Washington would be lucky to win 3, IMHO.

Not sure the Vikings win in Denver, yet Washington will find a way to grasp defeat from the jaws of victory against Dallas.

I agree...

The challenge completely stuffed the Vikings growing momentum dead in its tracks...you could almost feel the air sucked right out of the dome...but why didn't childress then throw the red flag and challenge the catch...If the penalty voided the fumble play, then childress should have been able to challenge the catch that led to a first down (which he was trying to but he doesn't have enough intelligence to do anything quickly enough)

I'm still holding out hope for a miracle next Sunday, being a 37 years Vikings fan that's pretty much all I ever have to hope for...

I doubt that 2 out of 9 theory

Of course the game plan would be different for us and they wouldnt all be at you house either.

We are without many starters FS,LB,QB,T,G,DB. To many other injuries to list. We are playing and array of backups. So that theory really doesnt hold water. The fact is, your team was out coached and it wasnt even close in that dept.

You were supposed to beat us 20 years ago to, remember that game when we went on to win the SB. Gibbs has been a thorn in your side but i feel for your team. Every team has their nemesis, we certainly have them.

Yeah we may lose next week and we may not but the Vikes have no pushover next week either. Good luck to you guys. May the best team make it.

I knew not to get hopes up

I've been a vikings fan since the early seventies and this preformance is definately something I'm used to seeing. How many of you not being coaches seen that at the beginning of the year when we had a chance to pick up Garcia and some quality receivers (GLARING WEAKNESSES ON THIS TEAM) We just stood by and did nothing. I don't know about you guys but I was very pissed off then and I'm even more pissed off now. We also needed a quality defensive end that we did nothing about. We make every QB look like a hall of famer because they usually have all day to sit back and pass. What happened to all that blitzing we were doing the last couple of games? Good things were happening, now it seems we are back to square one. Well, time to pack it in for another year of missing the playoffs. There is no way in hell that the redskins don't beat a Dallas team that will be playing all second and third stringers cause the game means absolutely nothing to them. We had our chance and once again.....Blew the shit big time!!

play calling and next Vikings QB...

I haven't fallen off the Dump Chilly Bandwagon, and, in fact, I remain the caretaker of it...playing calling is atrocious...when will this cat ever learn to ADJUST?....three straight games of 8-9 in the box, with CB run blitzes, and the dude STILL can't make an adjustment...remember the 18 yarder AD ripped off in the beginning of the 3rd quarter?...booby prize for anyone that can tell me what formation they were in....times up...3 WR set...duh...I volunteer coach little kids, and it doesn't take a genuius to figure out how to diffuse a 8 man front....SPREAD OFFENSE...you can still run the ball, but obviously Chilly boy can't see this...

forget about McNabb...I doubt he'd want to come here anyway...mark my words....the best available VETERAN qb that is gonna be available is....Chad Pennington...yes, that Chad Pennington of the J.E.T.S. jets jets jets...he'd be a perfect fit for this "offense", and he's got some experience...he won't be needed to win games...only do what TJ is supposed to do...short, quick strikes, and good decision making...frame this post, and look at it this summer...probably gonna cost a 2nd or 3rd rounder to get him, but well worth it...no other options out there, unless you're talking about very old or very bad (see Rex Grossman)....

here's hopin for the run game to get back on track Sunday, and the Cowboy's showing some balls and wanting to win...
