2007 NFL Draft Open Thread

Okay, folks, here's the plan for the draft today.

I'm going to be live blogging the first day of the draft.  That's right. . .the Hank's Premium Soda will be cold, the chips and salsa will be fresh, the (potential) pizza will be hot and delicious, and my butt will be parked in front of this computer.

All.  Day.  Long.

But I want YOU guys to contribute, too!  Whether it be through comments in this thread, or diaries, or whatever else.  Let's have some fun with this here draft thing, folks. . .it's the last big football event we're going to have for a few months.

The results from our last pre-draft poll for who you hope the Vikings take at #7. . .with 141 precincts reporting:

The Raiders apparently asked Cleveland for their first, second, and third round picks this year AND their first rounder next year for Cleveland to move up from 3 to 1. Al Davis might be legally insane.

I'm almost disappointed. . .Crazy Al actually made the safe pick here. But man, it would have been fun if he had taken Calvin Johnson.

Well, I had him going at 2, but I had Tampa moving up to take him. There's a pretty good chance that Johnson is still going to get dealt to either Tampa or Atlanta, but if the Lions keep him, I don't want him kicking our asses for the next 10 years.

NFLN reporting that the Lions didn't take Johnson with the intention of trading him, and that they might be sending Mike Williams to Tennessee for a second-day pick.

So Calvin Johnson IS going to be kicking our asses twice a year for the next decade. Lovely.

Can't say I saw this one coming, to be honest. Thomas is a pretty damn good player, but I really thought they'd take Quinn here.

Quinn Watch continues. Adams isn't a bad pick. . .he's a little small and doesn't do much against the run, but he's probably the best pass rusher in the draft.

Minnesota will be on the clock in, at the latest, half an hour.

Arizona has an interesting pick coming up here. Do they take Adrian Peterson, despite having Edge James? Do they take LaRon Landry? Do they reach for Levi Brown?

Sadly, they won't take Brady Quinn.

Yep, it's a reach. . .but Arizona needs OL THAT badly. They probably could have moved down a few spots and gotten better value for him.

So either Adrian Peterson or LaRon Landry is guaranteed to be there when Minnesota makes their pick. . .which is coming up right after the Redskins make their selection. Do they go Landry? Do they take Okoye? Does Miami trade up to #6? We shall see.

Well, this makes me sad. . .I was hoping that Landry would get to Minnesota. He's still going to turn out to be the best defensive player in this draft, IMO, but it won't be for Minnesota.

And the Vikings are ON THE CLOCK!!!! Please. . .if there is a higher power out there, they won't take Brady Quinn.

Prepare for the requisite "will they get the card in on time" jokes. Another good reason to watch NFLN instead of ESPN.

Great pick. . .we've been over it and over it, but this is an awesome selection for the Vikings. We'll get more into the Vikings picks post-draft.

And the best part about this pick? It's not Brady Quinn.

Interesting. . .I thought that the Bobby Petrino factor might have pushed this pick to Amobi Okoye, but it didn't. Anderson should immediately provide help for them, but Atlanta's gotta be pissed that Landry wasn't there.

Oh. . .and Quinn Watch comically continues. And NFLN is saying that he's not necessarily a lock to go at #9 to Miami, either.

Very good pick for the Texans here. I love me some Okoye. . .I'm surprised he fell as far as he did.

San Francisco up next. . .you'd almost have to think they'd go Patrick Willis here.

Good pick for the Bills here, too. . .with the exception of the Ginn selection, there really hasn't been a bad pick in the first round to this point. You could argue Levi Brown, but I think he fills a need for the Cardinals.

Plus, Lynch being selected by Buffalo means that he doesn't get selected by Green Bay. This makes me a happy camper.

St. Louis is on the clock now. . .is this where the Quinn Watch comes to an end? (I hope not, because this is hilarious.)

So, St. Louis doesn't take Quinn. Carriker is a BIG guy (nearly 300 pounds). . .similar to Kevin Williams when he came out. I wonder if Carriker won't eventually have to move inside like Williams did.

Carolina up now. I really, REALLY can't see Quinn falling past here.

Pretty good pick for the Jets, who needed corners anyway, what with all the WRs the Patriots have added this off-season.

Pittsburgh and Green Bay will round out the top half of Round 1

A bit high for Timmons, IMO. . .I think they would have been better served taking Leon Hall. Timmons is a good player and everything, but I thought that CB was a bigger need for them.

Nobody was scared of Green Bay before. . .they're sure as hell not scared of them now.
