Richardson Likely Done for the Season

According to fellow Vikings' blogger Judd Zulgad

Veteran fullback Tony Richardson is expected to be placed on injured reserve this week after suffering a fractured right forearm on Sunday, coach Brad Childress said today.

Richardson suffered the injury early in the game against the Packers but continued to play. He already was playing hurt, having fractured his right thumb the previous week at San Francisco. The Vikings have seven games left in the season and Richardson's injury will take six to heal.

"It's very difficult at best to be healthy and play that position, it's really a battering-ram position, but even more difficult when you have a broken thumb and a broken forearm," Childress said.

The Vikings alternatives could include using tight end Jeff Dugan or Jim Kleinsasser at fullback. Childress indicated the Vikings also could be looking outside the organization for help. The team's depth chart does not have a backup fullback listed.

Great.  So one of the few bright spots this offense had is on the shelf, likely until 2007.

You know, anytime this season feels the need to stop kicking us all in the groin, I'd appreciate it.
