Update [2007-4-28 16:5:21 by Gonzo]:
The Jaguars Broncos are on the clock after a trade. Jacksonville sends #17 to Denver for #21, #86, and #198.
Update [2007-4-28 16:5:21 by Gonzo]:
Denver selects. . .Jarvis Moss, DE, Florida
I actually had Moss going at 15 to the Steelers. Moss needs to get bigger, but he could make a pretty immediate impact as an edge rusher.
The Ohio State Penal League All-Stars are on the clock.
Update [2007-4-28 16:5:21 by Gonzo]:
Cincinnati selects. . .Leon Hall, CB, Michigan.
Good value pick for the Bengals this late in Round 1. . .I had him going up at 10 to Houston. He's apparently a good guy off the field, too, which Cincy needs.
Tennessee is up now. . .I'd be surprised if this was anything but a WR. Robert Meachem makes the most sense, IMO.
Update [2007-4-28 16:5:21 by Gonzo]:
Tennessee takes. . .Michael Griffin, S, Texas.
Well, that's why I'm not in an NFL front office.
I actually had Griffin going in the early second and had him as the #4 safety on my board (behind Landry, Nelson, and Merriweather). With as great a need at WR as the Titans have, I'm surprised by this pick.
Update [2007-4-28 16:5:21 by Gonzo]:
New York (N) selects. . .Aaron Ross, CB, Texas.
I really thought they'd be going LB here with Beason or Pozlusny. But they have lots of secondary issues, too.
As was mentioned in the comments, there are a LOT of WRs getting pushed down here. Bowe, Meachem, Jarrett, Hill, Rice, Smith, Gonzalez, and Craig Davis. . .we haven't seen a WR go off the board since Ted Ginn at #9.
Oh, and Quinn Watch? STILL going!
Update [2007-4-28 16:5:21 by Gonzo]:
Jacksonville takes. . .Reggie Nelson, S, Florida.
Another team that doesn't take a WR when they need one, which is fine by me. Nelson's the second-best safety in the draft, but he's not nearly in LaRon Landry's league.
Oh, and for those of you that follow the Twins. . .Top of the 9th in Detroit. . .Twins 10, Tigers 3.
Update [2007-4-28 16:18:52 by Gonzo]:
NFLN reporting that the Browns are offering a third-round choice this year and their first round choice next year to move ahead of Kansas City to take Brady Quinn.
If I'm Jerry Jones, I jump all over that deal.
Update [2007-4-28 16:18:52 by Gonzo]:
Cleveland has traded up to Dallas' spot for the deal that I mentioned above. Cleveland's #3 and their #1 next year for Dallas' pick at #22.
Cleveland selects. . .Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame.
Quinn Watch is over, as he gets to drag his overrated butt to Cleveland. Now he can finally come out of the Commissioner's Green Room and face the media like a real grown-up.
Boy, Cleveland better hope they're good this year, or else they just gave up a Top 10 pick in the '08 draft.
Update [2007-4-28 17:8:28 by Gonzo]:
I erred earlier. . .Cleveland gave up their second round pick this year and their #1 next year, not a third.
That just makes it that much worse for Cleveland.
Update [2007-4-28 17:8:28 by Gonzo]:
Kansas City selects. . .Dwayne Bowe, WR, Louisiana State
Well, KC needed a WR, and Bowe's a pretty good one. I thought they might take Joe Staley here, but they'll probably look to Round 2 for OL help.
New England up now with the first of two first-round picks.
Update [2007-4-28 17:8:28 by Gonzo]:
New England selects. . .Brandon Merriweather, S, Miami (FL)
Good player with some character issues (he was involved in the big brawl the Hurricanes had this year), but it's the Patriots. I've given up questioning what that team does.
Carolina now on the board with the pick they got from the Jets about 3 days ago.
Update [2007-4-28 17:8:28 by Gonzo]:
Carolina selects. . .Jon Beason, LB, Miami (FL)
That means there's still a ton of receivers left that Minnesota could potentially get their hands on. Hopefully they keep dropping. . .
Philadelphia is on the clock now. . .don't see them taking a WR, which is good.
Update [2007-4-28 17:8:28 by Gonzo]:
Dallas has apparently traded back into the first round. Word has it that the deal is Philly's first round pick (#26) for #36, #87, and #159.
An inter-division trade? Wow. . .don't see that every day.
I'm sure that Dallas is taking defense here. . .or possibly Robert Meachem.
Update [2007-4-28 17:8:28 by Gonzo]:
Dallas selects. . .Anthony Spencer, DE/LB, Purdue.
I actually had Spencer going to Dallas. . .of course, I had him going there at #22, not #26. Hey, it still counts.
New Orleans is up now. I think this is where Greg Olsen comes off the board.
Update [2007-4-28 17:36:42 by Gonzo]:
New Orleans selects. . .Robert Meachem, WR, Tennessee
The hell? I thought the Saints were pretty well off at WR. Man, this sucks. . .one less WR to fall into Round 2 for us.
Patriots are on the clock again.
Update [2007-4-28 17:36:42 by Gonzo]:
The Niners have moved back into the first round. We'll get the particulars of the trade when they're broadcast.
Update [2007-4-28 17:36:42 by Gonzo]:
San Francisco selects. . .Joe Staley, OT, Central Michigan
NFL Network is saying that there's a chance that the Niners trade Kwame Harris, possibly to the Raiders. Decent pick by the Niners.
Baltimore now on the clock. No word on whether or not they'll attempt to swing a trade with another team, agree to a deal, and then screw them over.
(Bitter? Me? Nah.)
Update [2007-4-28 17:36:42 by Gonzo]:
The Pats got the Niners' first-round pick next year, too? Huh wha?
I suddenly like this deal less for the Niners now after hearing that.
Update [2007-4-28 17:48:23 by Gonzo]:
Baltimore selects. . .Ben Grubbs, OG, Auburn
The Ravens apparently were in the running to trade up for Brady Quinn before the Browns swooped in and took him. They apparently also wanted Joe Staley, who went on the previous pick.
San Diego, Chicago, and Indianapolis will finish up Round 1!
Update [2007-4-28 18:20:52 by Gonzo]:
San Diego takes. . .Craig Davis, WR, Louisiana State
The 4th LSU player to be taken in this draft. I had him WAY down in the second round. . .bit of a reach for the Bolts here, I think.
Chicago's up now. . .NFL Network already showed a clip of Greg Olsen wearing a Bears hat. Fine by me. . .it's not as if the Bears have a quarterback that can hit him.
Update [2007-4-28 18:20:52 by Gonzo]:
Chicago takes. . .Greg Olsen, TE, Miami (FL)
A TE that runs fast, couldn't block my little sister, and curls up into the fetal position after the first hard shot he takes. Sounds like Bear material to me!
Indianapolis will finish out the first round!
Update [2007-4-28 18:20:52 by Gonzo]:
Indianapolis selects. . .Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Ohio State
Good pick for the Colts, especially after losing Brandon Stokley.
And that's the first round, everybody!
