One of the more. . ."interesting". . .moves of the weekend for the beloved Purple came when they decided to sign former Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Fred Evans. . .or, as I like to call him, "BZZZZZZZZZZT!". . .to a two-year contract.
Why do I like to call him "BZZZZZZZZZZT!", you might ask? Well, it was Evans that a couple of months ago decided to throw a temper-tantrum at the Miami PD and got himself to the point where he got tasered so that he could be subdued.
Let me repeat that. . .TASERED.
According to the incident report, "a physical struggle" ensued, and police subsequently used tasers to bring Evans under control.
Evans' situation was further compounded by the news that he was already on probation for marijuana possession charges in Texas. Authorities in Colorado County, Texas, confirmed Evans was sentenced June 6 to one year of deferred adjudication after pleading no contest to a Feb. 10 arrest for misdemeanor marijuana possession.
Seriously, what in the bloody blue hell are we thinking with this move? Hell, if you're going to sign a complete loser to shore up the DT position, Tank Johnson was right there. At least Johnson's done something on the NFL level. I had never even heard of Fred Evans until yesterday when I saw this story on ESPN.com.
After doing so much in the past couple of seasons to rid themselves of the taste of the whole "Love Boat" thing and the off-season turmoil that came before it, now we're in the business of signing complete schmoes like this guy. He was a seventh-round pick last year that played in ONE game (the season finale) and allegedly "would have challenged" for more playing time this season. Sort of how Britney Spears "would have challenged" for the Mother of the Year award if she wasn't, you know, completely insane.
I don't like the fact that the Vikings have signed BZZZZZZZZZZT! I don't like it at all. Of all the people that were out there that this team could have brought in, THIS was the best they could do? A never has been with a rap sheet and no track record? I like Zygi Wilf and Rick Spielman, but this is NOT a good move, in my opinion.
