Update Forthcoming

Apologies for not getting something out here yesterday.  Couple of reasons for that.  The first being that our base (Keesler AFB in Biloxi) has a major inspection starting tomorrow, and everyone's been trying to get their ducks in a row for that.  See, here's the thing about military inspections. . .and I know they're necessary. . .but this is what I don't get.  Bases always get MONTHS of advance notice before an inspection team comes through.  I've never understood this.  Why?

Because the way something runs when people have months to prepare usually doesn't even remotely resemble how things run on a day-to-day basis.  Honestly, if I was in charge of this sort of thing, nobody would know I was coming until after I was there.  But I digress.

The other reason is that, being in the field of meteorology, I've been wrapped up in keeping track of Hurricane Dean (or DEAN, if you're here from the Death Valley Driver Video Review Forum).  Seriously, for weather nerds like myself, The Weather Channel is one of the greatest inventions of the modern age.  I've had it on for most of the last two days watching this storm and praying like hell that it doesn't take a sudden right turn and wind up seeing this guy in my front lawn.

Ladies and gentleman, that man is Weather Channel correspondent Jim Cantore.  A word to the wise. . .if you, for any reason, see Jim Cantore in your town, do the following two things:

  1. Make sure your insurance is up to date
  2. Haul ass out of town
Where Jim Cantore goes, bad things happen.  He was here in Biloxi when Hurricane Katrina made landfall, he was just in Hawai'i for Hurricane Flossie, and now he's in Mexico waiting for Hurricane Dean to show up.  It's kind of a running joke in the weather career field that you're not in danger until Jim Cantore shows up.

But there WILL be football discussion this afternoon. . .oh, yes, there will be football discussion.  Just wanted to give everyone a status update for the time being.  Continue enjoying your weekend, folks!
