The Football Update, As Promised

What can we really say about the Jets game this past Friday?  Well, we can say the following:

-If Kenechi Udeze isn't careful, he's going to find himself grabbing a whole lot of pine this year.  Ray Edwards spent the better part of his evening pimp-slapping D'Brickshaw Ferguson (when Ferguson wasn't busy getting flattened by Kevin Williams, anyway), and Brian Robison has looked outstanding in his time thus far.  With Udeze, Robison, Edwards, Darrion Scott, and Erasmus James all competing for time at the end spots, someone's going to be the odd man out. . .based on health at this point, it might be James.  Based on performance down the road, I'm guessing it's going to be Udeze.

-Leslie Frazier said he's calling blitzes between 20 and 25 percent of the time.  If that's the case, then our front four has been getting outstanding pressure thus far, and the secondary has been getting the job done for the most part.  Cedric Griffin might have made a bad play or two in the game on Friday. . .particularly the missed tackle on the TD catch and run by McCairens. . .but he was getting picked on all night, and held up fairly well, all things considered.

-I loves me some Chad Greenway.  I can't wait to get this kid on the field for some meaningful football.

-The Williams brothers?  STILL the best DT tandem in the league.  Yes, I say this every week.  Yes, it's still true every time I say it.

-I wish Tarvaris Jackson could have gotten to throw more than 4 passes.  I'm guessing we'll be seeing him throw a lot on Saturday against Seattle.  Can't really make a lot of comments on the passing game, considering that there were only 8 completions by Vikings' QBs on the evening.

-Adrian Peterson. . .he's pretty good.  I especially loved the Chuck Foreman-esque spin move that kicked off his big run. . .almost as much as I loved him throwing the shoulder into the Jets' DB before he went out of bounds.

All in all, a great performance by the Vikings' defense, and not a lot of offense to discuss.  I don't expect to get 3 defensive TDs every week, but the games when you do get that turn out to be a lot of fun, don't they?
