In his weekly "10 Spot" column for ESPN.com, Adam Schefter takes a brief look at the upcoming NFL coaching carousel, with "Black Monday" being just a few days away and quite a few head coaches in jeopardy of getting their pink slips.
Well, if you take a look at his list of potential head coaching candidates, one name that shows up is a bit of a surprise, to say the least.
Vikings defensive backs coach Joe Woods: Considered to have a similar makeup to Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, who also once served as an assistant coach with the Vikings.
Yep. . .the same Joe Woods that has overseen a secondary that hasn't been any good for a very long time, and that recently set a record by going five hundred ninety-two minutes and thirty seconds of game time between interceptions.
I really, really don't understand Schefter's logic here, but hey. . .he's the NFL insider here, not me. If he says Woods is a head coaching candidate, then I suppose that means he is. Frankly, I think there's just as good a chance that he (along with most of the Vikings' current defensive coaching staff) will be looking for work starting sometime on Monday afternoon than there is of him getting a shot at a head coaching job any time soon.
