With the spectre of a lockout looming over the National Football League, many of its players are likely going to start looking into different things in order to make some money for themselves.
For Ray Edwards, his new "day job" might involve beating the heck out of people.
According to Charley Walters of the Pioneer Press, the 6'5", 270-pound defensive end is talking seriously about getting into the boxing ring as a second career if the NFL owners lock their players out for an extended period of time. (The blurb is buried towards the bottom, but it was important enough for Pro Football Talk to pick up on it.)
Now, this isn't just a passing fancy for Edwards. . .he's been training to be a fighter since at least September in anticipation of a possible lockout. With Edwards' size and quickness, it's not hard to imagine him being a potential big-time heavyweight if he puts the time in at the gym.
With the way the current labor negotiations seem to be going, Edwards could have more time to spend in the gym than he might like.
