UPDATE 4:27 PM: There is an extension...and it's 24 hours. Like Pelissero says, I'm not sure if that means they're making a ton of progress or it's just throwing us a bone.
Don't you know
Things can change
Things'll go your way
If you hold on, for one more day...
Yep, the NFL labor strife has me so discombobulated that I just quoted a Wilson Phillips song as a lede.
Times are rough, people. Fortunately, there's a small glimmer of hope.
The lockout is due to officially start in about nine hours. However, according to SI.com, the NFL brass and the players' association are discussing an extension of the negotiating deadline for a week or two. This proposed extension would most likely delay the NFLPA's plans of decertifying this afternoon.
I suppose this "progress" is all well and good, but by all accounts the lockout is still happening. Every talking head familiar with the situation claims that the specter of the lockout will haunt us well into the summer months. Which of course is downright awful for us fans. I'm not saying either side is blame-free, but I tend to agree with how Drew Magary of Deadspin blamed the owners today with his typical heaping dose of blue language.
Stay tuned...
Some day somebody's gonna make you want to
Turn around and say goodbye...
AAAAGGHH I CAN'T STOP! PLEASE GOD LET THIS THING GET RESOLVED!!
