Which College Players Are Future Vikings Week 6 Review and Week 7 Primer

Another great week of college football. I think some teams were exposed a little and there were a couple of upsets. Florida State really hurt their chances at the Championship game but they are not out of it by any means. It was a tough loss for them for sure. Georgia got whupped by South Carolina which was surprising. I thought the score would be closer. I guess West Virginia is pretty good huh? They could be a dark horse candidate for that Championship game as their schedule is not too tough with Kansas State and Oklahoma the two toughest.

Notre Dame continues to pound people. This week they play Stanford which should be a good old fashioned slug fest. Ohio State is racking up some points. And what is going on with Nebraska's black shirt defense? TCU has to be sick to their stomachs. Their QB could not overcome his problems. That is tough because they were doing well. Man that kid let down a lot of people. I do not know what to think of UCLA besides they suck. As a Trojan fan I am skeptical of their team this year. I think they are building something but may be just a little too young. I like Rutgers. They are 6-0. I do not know if that will hold up because they really have not played anybody. No, Arkansas is lousy and just because they play in the SEC does not make them good. I like a couple of players from Rutgers a lot. Khaseem Greene LB and Logan Ryan CB.

Finally, I can get to the most overrated team in the country. LSU. Hw the heck are they still clinging to the #9 ranking in the AP poll. These writers are idiots are so far up on Coach Miles' jock that they can not even get a breath of air. Pathetic. I mean who have they beat? North Texas, a lousy Washington team, Idaho, a lousy Auburn team, and mighty Towson. For some reason Florida struggled against them which was a surprise. But I guess they deserve the #9 spot when you look at the teams that Florida State played and USC for that matter. The scheduling is just awful in college football.

I now am going to add a new category. Player of the Week.

I could go with some obvious offensive players like the running back from West Virginia Andrew Buie who ran for 207 yards with 2 TDs on 31 carries, or Giovani Bernard who ran for 262 yards with 1 TD on 23 carries, or Marqise Lee who had 12 catches for 192 yards and 1 TD, or DeAndre Hopkins who had 7 catches for 173 yards and 2 TDs, or Austin Hill who had 11 catches for 165 yards and 2 TDs, or a few QBs like Matt Scott, Taj Boyd, or Josh Nunes. But I am not.

The winner this week is Jake Knott LB Iowa State. He 13 tackles (10 solo) with one tackle for loss and sealed another victory with a late interception.

Honorable mention goes to Star Lotulelei. If you did not see him destroy the Trojans last week you missed a dominant performance.

I am listing some performances of some of the top players below. I might not have them all here so feel free to add a player who you think did really well and may have vaulted themselves up the draft boards.

Which games will you be watching and which players do you think would be great Vikings?

Here is my weekly mock. The Vikings are looking good at 4-1 right now. I am thinking a 10-6 record seems like a reasonable goal. As of today the Vikings would be picking 27th according to the records. I am going to go with #23 this week.

Since the Vikings are pushing that draft slot down (which is a very good thing) the prospects available are different. I think that at this point in the first round a DT like Short could be the ticket. Guion is doing OK but KWill is going to turn 33 next August. The Vikings have to look for some solid young quality defensive tackles that have the potential to man a tackle spot for more than a few years. Short has had excellent production from his DT position throughout his collegiate career in terms of tackles for loss and sacks. He very well could go higher than 23 too. But not today. :)

I still think the team should keep adding to the offensive line and early. Yeah you can find some late round guys but you have to be lucky I guess. The Vikings passed up Marshall Newhouse to select Chris DeGeare in the 2010 draft. Newhouse was rated higher but they took a chance on DeGeare and it did not work out. Early picks do not work out either but I think they fare better overall on average. Aboushi is a nice sized tackle with good athleticism. This may not be the pick since the team is talking to Loadholt about an extension. But I am going to leave it for now until Loadholt actually signs the extension.

I liked the way Elam played this past week and pick #87 seems like it could be too low. I wavered on taking another safety with a first round pick. I think the safety class is going to be pretty good this year and teams really need them. I could see the Vikings going for a Kenny Vacarro or TJ McDonald with that first round pick. Maybe they take David Amerson in the first round with the intention of playing him at safety? Hmmm ... I think that would be a pretty nice sized safety tandem in Smith and Amerson.

I believe the team has to continue to add corners. You can never have enough and you do not know if a player is going to progress. Ryan is a player I like and has good size.

In the 4th I finally grabbed a WR and a productive one too. Bailey is a little short but is not light. Then I grabbed another productive WR in the 6th.

I like Ansah's raw upside and who knows what is going to happen with Allen in two to three years.

Knott is a big LB that is probably going to go earlier than I have him right now.

Finally I wanted to add another back because it will be Gerhart's last year of his rookie deal next year and who knows if he will resign or if they will want to resign him. I imagine they will.

The UDFAs are the usual suspects although I did change it up a little.

Well there it is. I hope that you can watch your team(s) and provide some feedback on players you think that can make it in the NFL
