It's Saturday once again, ladies and gentlemen, and that means it's time for college football to take over the airwaves.
In Big Ten country, a couple of rivalry trophies are on the line. . .both of which are named after the same guy. At Camp Randall Stadium this morning, the Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Wisconsin Badgers will do battle for Paul Bunyan's Axe, with the Gophers starting true freshman Philip Nelson at quarterback. Kickoff for that game will take place at 11 AM Central time.
That is not to be confused with the Paul Bunyan Trophy, which will be contested at the Big House in Ann Arbor at 2:30 PM Central time when the Michigan State Spartans battle the Michigan Wolverines. Sparty has held that trophy since 2008, but the Wolverines are the favorite this afternoon.
To follow those two games, and all the other Big Ten action, the best place to go is Off-Tackle Empire, SB Nation's home for everything relating to Big Ten football. For you Gopher fans out there, The Daily Gopher will be tracking the action from Camp Randall this morning and afternoon as well.
Some of the other big match-ups this afternoon look to be pretty solid games. Among the 2:30 Central time games are two top ten teams getting together at The Swamp, as #2 Florida plays host to #7 South Carolina. #6 LSU travels to #18 Texas A&M as a part of the early slate of games, while the late games give us a potentially very good Big 12 match-up, as the 4th-ranked Kansas State Wildcats head into Morgantown to take on Heisman front-runner Geno Smith and the 13th-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers.
It looks like a pretty solid day of college football, folks. If you're going to be watching the games anyway, why not watch them here with your fellow Vikings fans? If you have a spare ream of paper, you can even print out Mark's scouting list for while you're watching the action.
