The NFL's trade deadline. . .which is, by far, the most inconsequential trade deadline in all of professional sports. . .is going to come a little later than originally expected.
The league announced today that the trade deadline will now hit at 3 PM Central time on Thursday, due to a spot of inclement weather that you may or may not have heard anything about. This past off-season, the NFL moved the trade deadline back from Week 6 to Week 8 in the interest in potentially driving more activity. It doesn't appear as though that has been the case, however. There are a couple of rumors floating around out there, but nothing that seems to have any real substance to it.
Sure, you'll hear names like Steve Smith, Steven Jackson and Dwayne Bowe being floated around over the next couple of days as potential trade bait, and one or two of them might even get moved. But, personally, I'm having a hard time remembering the last in-season NFL trade of any consequence that had a significant impact in the NFL. This isn't like the baseball or basketball trading deadlines where a ton of big names end up getting moved around.
And, no, the Randy Moss trade from 2010 doesn't count.
What trade rumors have you heard thus far, folks? Anything of consequence to (or possibly even involving) our Minnesota Vikings?
