We're fond of the old Lloyd Christmas declaration about there always being a chance. Well, if you were holding out hope that one of the Minnesota Vikings' two biggest offensive threats was going to play tomorrow when they take on the Detroit Lions. . .well, in this case Lloyd is wrong.
According to reports, wide receiver Percy Harvin will not play tomorrow after spraining his ankle in three different places against the Seattle Seahawks in last week's 30-20 loss in Seattle.
Harvin, who might be the most dynamic all-around player in the league right now, is second in the NFL in receptions with 62 and tenth in receiving yards with 677. With all of the things that the Vikings ask him to do, it's going to be nearly impossible to replace him in the lineup.
Marcus Sherels will likely slide over to kickoff return duties, in addition to his work on punt returns. On the offense, the Vikings will have fourth-round rookie Jarius Wright active tomorrow, but it remains to be seen how the offense will adjust to #12 not being on the field.
