The Minnesota Vikings got things off to a nice start in their game against the Seattle Seahawks, and they did it by. . .what else. . .giving the ball to Adrian Peterson.
On the game's first two plays, Peterson gained 79 yards. . .a 5-yard carry, and a 74-yarder that put the Vikings down to the Seattle 1-yard line. After an incomplete pass from Christian Ponder, Peterson found the end zone from one yard out, and the Vikings took an early 7-0 lead.
The 74-yard run by Peterson was the second-longest of his career, eclipsed only by an 80-yard touchdown run against Detroit in 2010. He has 96 rushing yards in the first quarter on six carries.
After forcing the Seahawks to punt, Minnesota had a 3rd-and-10 on their next drive. They handed the ball to Percy Harvin, but he had the ball stripped away, and the Seahawks recovered. Three plays later, Russell Wilson found Golden Tate in the end zone for a 6-yard touchdown pass, and the game was tied.
Seattle mounted a second scoring drive after a Minnesota punt, and former Vikings receiver Sidney Rice did most of the damage, including completing a 25-yard pass and hauling in a touchdown from 11 yards out to give Seattle a 14-7 lead.
The Vikings are driving, and currently have the ball at midfield as we start the second quarter of play with Minnesota trailing by a score of 14-7.
