Chiefs LB Jovan Belcher Dead In Murder-Suicide

A terrible tragedy unfolds in Kansas City

Kevin C. Cox

It's been confirmed by Kansas City sports talk radio personality Danny Parkins that Kansas City Chiefs starting LB Jovan Belcher, 25, is dead. He killed his girlfriend, and then drove to the Chiefs facility where he was confronted by coach Romeo Crennel and GM Scott Piloi, and then shot himself in the head.

Belcher was an undrafted LB out of Maine in 2009, and had worked his way into the starting lineup. Events of what happened last night are still being reported, but the Kansas City police have confirmed that Belcher was the player that was involved in the shooting.

This has been an unforgettable season on the field for the Chiefs, and now it's taken a tragic turn.

It's times like this that makes us realize that in the grand scheme of things, football really doesn't matter. From the staff of the Daily Norseman, our thoughts and prayers go out to Belcher's family, his girlfriend's family, and the entire Kansas City Chiefs organization.

We'll keep updating as more information becomes available.
