schadenfreude - satisfaction or pleasure felt at someone else's misfortune
Not long ago, when the penalties in the case of the New Orleans Saints* players. . .and coaches. . .and front office staff. . .placing bounties on opposing players, the bayou came alive with the sounds of people that felt it was far too harsh a punishment for the cherubic men that comprise their favorite football team. That such a thing was unfair and that the National Football League simply had a vendetta against the New Orleans Saints, and so forth.
Well, as they're fond of saying in the South. . .it's fixin' to get worse.
The NFL Players Association told players involved in the New Orleans Saints' bounty case that there is a chance they could face criminal charges and it hired outside counsel to represent them if needed.
While Commissioner Roger Goodell weighs how to punish the two dozen or so players the league says might be connected to the bounties, the NFLPA also suggested that players have a lawyer and union representative present when they are interviewed by NFL investigators.
In a related story, Drew Brees and Darren Sharper are still unaware that anything was going on during that time, and are demanding answers. Also, Jabari Greer still thinks he and his teammates are pretty honorable guys.
How, exactly, do Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis still have jobs? (That's a rhetorical question. . .it's obviously because Tom Benson endorses this kind of garbage, whether that endorsement is open or otherwise.)
I'm guessing there's going to be more coming on this soon. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm still enjoying this whole thing.
EDIT: Thanks to "dumdristig" for reminding me of this particular song. I was going to include the video for it last night, but I was lacking in YouTube access. Contains lyrics that could potentially be offensive.
