Holy crap, it's already April! The draft is less than a month away! That means we should probably start our annual Daily Norseman Community Mock Draft, eh? For those of you not familiar with the DNCMD, it's fairly simple:

  • You, the readers, are in charge of making every pick in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft. We'll provide a quick background on every team's needs and a poll with their potential draft targets. You vote in the poll, and whoever gets the most votes is that team's pick.
  • No trades are allowed. Since it's way too tough to project how things will shake out with trades, we're going to pick where teams are currently slotted to go in the first round. (This means the Redskins will get the #2 pick since they already traded up for it.)
  • ...and that's pretty much it. We present the choices, you pick, and together we end up with a fun and interactive mock draft of the first round.

Since the draft is a mere 23 days away, we're going to fly through the polls a little more quickly than we did last year. Thankfully, the first two (or three, if you're on the Matt Kalil bandwagon like I am) picks are pretty much no-brainers so we can cruise through them right away. So without further ado, let's put the Indianapolis Colts on the clock with the first pick.

When it comes to the Colts, the story's pretty simple. Everyone who even remotely follows the NFL has heard it 1,000 times. Indianapolis was horrendous last year without their longtime franchise quarterback, Peyton Manning. They let Manning go to the Broncos in free agency due to age, health, and financial concerns. Therefore, they're going to draft a quarterback with the #1 pick. No ifs, no ands, and no buts. It's happening.

The only question that remains is which potential franchise quarterback they're going with. All signs are currently pointing right at Andrew Luck, but Robert Griffin III has been gaining all sorts of momentum in the past few weeks.

It's that simple folks. Luck vs. RGIII. No other options. So which one should the Colts pick? Let us know who in the poll and let us know why in the comments. But vote now, because pick #2 is coming later tonight!
