Beating the Boredom, It's Contest Time

I don't know about you, but I'm bored. Very bored. Almost as bored as this.

We're in that dull stretch of off season after the NFL draft when not too much is happening. The drafted players are getting signed to contracts, the 90-man roster the team is going into training camp now has to cut a player you probably don't know yet when they add a player you probably don't know yet, and even the stadium situation is mostly settled. Well, "settled" is a relative term because the stadium bill (passed by the Minnesota Legislature and signed by Gov. Mark Dayton) is going before the Minneapolis City Council on Thursday, but since there isn't much the non-Minneapolis resident can do to influence that vote, I refuse to get emotionally involved in that particular hurdle.

Things have gotten humdrum and something had to be done. Welcome to your Track 2 Challenge for the Minnesota Vikings 2012 season soundtrack.

Contest details after the jump.

Yeah, yeah, I know the soundtrack doesn't have a catchy name yet, but I'm hoping you'll help with that. Yes, in addition to a song challenge, I'm also challenging you to come up with a title for the season's soundtrack.

We started off this season's soundtrack with a song for free agency, but, with some of the other distractions going on, we didn't get to a song for the draft. There it is, the Track 2 challenge is to select a song that you believe best describes the Vikings' 2012 NFL draft. Depending on much of a split there is between the "loved-it" group and the "hated-it" group, we might have two winners. We're accepting two entries per-person, make sure to include the name of the song, who recorded it, and a link to a video of the song on YouTube.

Last season's soundtrack title was the Ultimate Misery Mix 2011 because, by the time I had the idea to have a soundtrack contest we already knew the 2011 season was a mess, but 2012 is still a mystery. Will the complete roster rebuilding be as dismal a process as we fear? Will there be more wins? Any wins? We don't know. But what we do know is that the DN readers are not fainthearted fans, they're resilient and armed with a good sense of humor. So, flex those skills and come up with a title for DN's 2012 season soundtrack. Like the song contest, we're accepting two entries per-person. We'll thin the list down and then let the DN readers vote for a title. Only seems right that DN readers should choose the name of the soundtrack.

Keep the boredom at bay, submit your winning songs and soundtrack titles. As always, do it for the fun, for pride, and for the beat-up Burger King crown. I'll post the contests results early next week.
