Sunday Open Thread: The "AMERICA! (HECK) YEAH!" Edition

Well, after a little more than two weeks and some ridiculous displays of athletic prowess, the Games of the XXX Olympiad are officially over and done with, save for the closing ceremonies. (Hey, the Spice Girls are in concert tonight. . .lord knows you don't want to miss that, do you?)

With the games having come to a close, the folks at the mothership have put together this fine presentation in celebration of America's achievements on the biggest stage in athletics. Gotta love a good, old-fashioned homage to the old "Track and Field" arcade game.

Yes, the U.S.A. was the only country to reach triple digits in overall medals, including two from the state of Minnesota. Eden Prairie's Rachel Bootsma was part of the gold medal-winning women's 4x100 medley relay team in swimming, and St. Paul's Susie Scanlan, who was part of the women's fencing epee team that took home a bronze. (EDIT - And, as "BacksThePack" points out, Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love, if you want to count him as Minnesotan for these purposes. EDIT AGAIN - And I completely forgot Hutchinson's Lindsay Whalen, who was part of the U.S. Women's Basketball team that pretty much destroyed everything in its path en route to the gold medal. Thanks to "Tuba" for throwing that one in.)

So, congratulations to America's Olympians on their accomplishments over the past two weeks. Feel free to use this thread to discuss the Olympics, tonight's Closing Ceremonies, or pretty much anything else you want to talk about with your fellow Vikings fans.
