Injury Reports For The Minnesota Vikings And Jacksonville Jaguars

New, comments

There are a few things to talk about in regards to the Vikings' roster for this Friday, many of which have just recently come across ye olde Twittere.

-The Vikings are working out three players today, including offensive linemen Stanley Daniels and Tony Hills. Daniels went undrafted in 2007, and signed with the St. Louis Rams as a free agent. He has also spent time with the New York Jets, Green Bay Packers, Denver Broncos, and Cleveland Browns. (See, John Clayton, this guy is what you'd call a "journeyman.") Hills was the Steelers' fourth-round pick out of Texas in 2008, but didn't see any action for the Steelers until 2010. He played for the Broncos in 2011 as well.

-The Vikings are also working out defensive tackle Brian Price, who is a bit of an interesting story. Price was the second-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2010. He wound up on injured reserve in 2010, and had a falling out with the Bucs in 2011. In a game against the Carolina Panthers, Price took a bad personal foul that turned what would have been a third-and-long for the Panthers into a first-and-ten, after which the Panthers scored to put the game out of reach. Then-coach Raheem Morris was so angry that he kicked Price off of the sidelines for the rest of the game. Tampa traded him to the Chicago Bears back in July for a seventh-round pick, but Price didn't make it through Bears' camp and got cut.

-Leslie Frazier said during his press conference today that the Vikings' two newest additions, OL Mark Asper and CB A.J. Jefferson, would be inactive this Sunday against Jacksonville. Makes sense, as they probably haven't had enough time to fully absorb everything.

With that, let's move on to the injury reports. We'll start with the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars after the jump.

Here is the Jaguars' injury report from their official site.

Player Injury Sunday Status
DE Austen Lane Foot Out
DE George Selvie Knee Out
LB Daryl Smith Groin Out
CB Derek Cox Hamstring Doubtful
CB Mike Harris Hamstring Questionable
WR Justin Blackmon Ankle Probable
C Brad Meester Non-injury Probable
DE Aaron Morgan Non-injury Probable
OL Uche Nwaneri Ankle Probable

Couple of biggies for the Jaguars here, the biggest being Daryl Smith. According to the folks at Big Cat Country, he's generally considered their best coverage linebacker, and his absence leaves them with just one of their three starters at linebacker. The Derek Cox injury is significant as well, as the Jaguars have been having trouble getting healthy at cornerback and are now down a couple more bodies.

Now for the injury report for your Minnesota Vikings from the team's official site.

Player Injury Sunday Status
LB Marvin Mitchell Ankle Out
S Andrew Sendejo Ankle Out
WR Jarius Wright Ankle Out
RB Adrian Peterson Pancreas. . .just kidding, it's his knee Questionable
S Robert Blanton Hamstring Probable
TE John Carlson Knee Probable
DT Letroy Guion Knee Probable
G Geoff Schwartz Abdomen Probable
CB Marcus Sherels Ankle Probable
CB Antoine Winfield Non-injury ----

Honestly, I'm not even sure why Winfield was on the injury report. He missed a portion of yesterday's practice, but he's fully healthy and ready to go. Wright's injury means that the Vikings will be rolling with four receivers on Sunday (Percy Harvin, Michael Jenkins, Devin Aromashodu, and Stephen Burton). Given what we've seen from the offense thus far this pre-season, and with the injuries to the Jacksonville linebacking corps, I would expect to see a lot of Carlson and Kyle Rudolph on Sunday afternoon.

And there you have the bumps, bruises, and other maladies for the two teams that will square off at the Metrodome on Sunday afternoon.
