Not the banner start that the Minnesota Vikings wanted to get off to in their season opener, but it could have been much worse.
The Vikings managed a first down on their first play from scrimmage, but had to punt after just three more plays. The Jaguars then took the ball and went on a huge drive, spanning 17 plays, 77 yards, and 9:22 of game time. The Jaguars converted four consecutive third downs on the drive, and all rather easily. However, after Blaine Gabbert missed a wide open Justin Blackmon in the end zone, the Vikings got a stop and held the Jaguars to a 19-yard Josh Scobee field goal to give them a 3-0 lead.
Adrian Peterson has carried one time for four yards thus far, and the Vikings went three-and-out on their second drive as well after a fairly ugly pass by Christian Ponder that should have been intercepted. Things have not gone well for the Vikings on either side of the ball thus far.
One quarter in the books in the 2012 season opener, and the Minnesota Vikings trail the Jacksonville Jaguars by a score of 3-0.
