Blake Cognata Passes Away

USA TODAY Sports

A few days ago, we told you about a young man from New York named Blake Cognata, who was battling a rare form of bone cancer known as Ewing's Sarcoma. After one of his friends started a Twitter campaign under the hashtag #APCallBlake, Minnesota Vikings' running back Adrian Peterson. . .Blake's football hero. . .was on the phone with the young man to provide encouragement in his fight.

Sadly, it was reported on Saturday morning that Blake lost his battle with Ewing's Sarcoma, just two days before his 18th birthday. Peterson expressed his condolences via Twitter earlier in the day.

Blake's mother said that the phone call that Blake received from Peterson brought him a great deal of joy, and by Wednesday a care package full of items from the Vikings' running back had arrived at Blake's hospital room via overnight mail. It's good that Peterson was able to bring some relief to Blake during this time in his life.

Our condolences go out to the family of Blake Cognata.
