Ben Goessling, ESPN NFC North blogger, just sent out a tweet that is bad news for a team that really has had enough for a week:

This is yet another blow for a defense that has been battered and beaten so far this season.  An underperforming LB corps looked okay with Bishop out there initially, yet now with this news, they're outgunned and undermanned.

And for Bishop, this really clouds his future.  The Vikings signed him to a one year 'prove it' contract in the off season from Green Bay, after he was put on IR there during training camp in 2012 after tearing his hamstring.  With the way things have gone for the defense this year, combined with the limited playing time Bishop had seen yesterday's fiasco against Carolina, it's tough to see Bishop back in purple next year.

Goessling also tweeted out injury updates on two other defenders who suffered injuries yesterday, Harrison Smith and Xavier Rhodes:

The news on Rhodes is good news; hopefully he'll be ready next week.  For Smith, turf toe sounds like a wimpy injury, but speaking from experience, it really hurts.  You can't put pressure on your foot--it's terrible.  Hopefully with treatment he'll be ready Sunday as well.

So, Mondays.  Yay.  Good luck to Desmond Bishop.  If there's a bright side to this, his rehab will be conducted by Eric Sugarman, Certified Athletic Trainer.
