Minnesota Vikings News And Links, 10/17

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sport

It's a Thursday, ladies and gentlemen, which means there's an NFL game this evening. Again, it isn't Minnesota Vikings football, but there's a game in any case, and we can use that to tide ourselves over until Monday.

Since the last time we brought you an Open Thread. . .

-To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Josh Freeman has been named the starting quarterback for Monday's contest against the New York Giants.

-And to the surprise of nobody that's watched this team this year, the rookies aren't getting a whole lot of play so far.

From some other outposts around the internet. . .

-The Vikings have been blitzing more often this year, and they're. . .not bad at it?

-Speaking of defense, 1500 ESPN has some observations about that side of the ball from last game.

-The team gave a tryout to former Indianapolis Colts safety Joe Lefeged.

The rules of the Open Thread are the same as they've always been, ladies and gentlemen. . .no politics, no religion, no feeding of the trolls, and keep the bad language to a minimum/use the spoiler tags if you feel as though you must curse.

More shiny, happy music for your ambient music today.

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open for this Thursday, everybody. Enjoy the rest of your day, and we'll have more for you as we go along.
