I know I've been tardy on a lot of stuff this week, folks, and I'd like to apologize for that. . .been a long week over on this end, and I'll try to do better next week.
As we get closer to the match-up on Monday night between the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants, we take a minute to look back at the history between these two teams. It's been a fairly close history, and like we have with the other stories like this we've done, we're simply focusing on the regular season match-ups. . .and frankly, when we're talking about the Giants, that's probably for the best.
As always, Pro Football Reference provides us with all the relevant numbers.
Total Games Between the Vikings and the Giants: 22
All-Time Record: Vikings, 13-9
Total Vikings Points Scored Head-to-Head: 522 (23.7/game)
Total Giants Points Scored Head-to-Head: 409 (18.6/game)
Longest Vikings Winning Streak: 4 (13 November 2005 - 3 January 2010)
Longest Vikings Losing Streak: 3 (16 November 1986 - 9 December 1990 and 10 November 2002 - 31 October 2004)

Biggest Giants Victory In New York: 10 points, 30 October 1989 (Final score 24-14)
And a few miscellaneous tidbits. . .
-One of the Vikings' most recent trips to New York saw them win a game without the benefit of an offensive touchdown. On 13 November 2005, the Vikings beat the Giants 24-21, scoring touchdowns on a kick return, a punt return, and an interception return. The Vikings intercepted Eli Manning four times that afternoon.
-Speaking of Eli, he's had a bit of a rough go of things against the Vikings in his career. He's led the Giants against the Vikings five times, compiling a record of just 1-4. That includes a fairly ugly ratio of 3 touchdown passes to 11 interceptions and a career quarterback rating of 50.2 against the purple and gold. He did win his most recent start against the Vikings, though, a 21-3 triumph at Ford Field in Detroit back in 2010. . .that was the game that was to be played at the Metrodome before the roof collapsed.
-Adrian Peterson has had moderate success against the Giants in his career. In three games against the Giants, he's carried the ball 44 times for 183 yards and two touchdowns.
-If Peterson can gain 103 yards on Monday night, he will pass Chuck Foreman and Robert Smith to become the Vikings' all-time leading rusher on Monday Night Football. Peterson currently has 527 yards in seven Monday night appearances. Smith is second with 601 yards (in 11 games), and Foreman leads the way with 629 yards (in 12 games).
-New Vikings' quarterback Josh Freeman has faced the Giants just once in his five-year career. In Week 2 of 2012, Freeman completed 15-of-28 passes for 243 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions as his Buccaneers fell to the Giants by a score of 41-34.
And there you have a brief look at the history between the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants. Hopefully the Vikings can add another positive piece to that history on Monday night at MetLife Stadium.
