Vikings Hold Steady In 2014 NFL Draft Positioning

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

As the Minnesota Vikings have pretty much made it clear that they really don't care about winning football games in 2013 any more, we can spend a little bit of time continuing to look ahead to 2014 and the next NFL Draft.

After their loss on Monday night to the New York Giants dropped their record to 1-5. . .and, in something that won't get old any time soon, 0-5 on American soil. . .the team is holding steady at the #4 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, according to the folks from the Great Blue North Draft Report.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have moved into the top spot that had been held by the Giants last week. The NFL's other remaining winless team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, currently holds the #2 selection. And, to add a bit of insult to injury, if the season ended today the Giants would still pick ahead of the Vikings, as they currently hold the third overall pick. However, that has more to do with them having one more loss than the Vikings (not having had their bye week yet) than anything else.

Meanwhile, the folks that compile NFL Power Rankings across the internet seem to have come to a consensus as to where the Vikings currently rank. (Props to the folks at The Viking Age for putting the list together.) In eleven different sets of Power Rankings, the Vikings currently reside at #30 out of the 32 NFL teams. The only two teams they're ahead of? Yep. . .Jacksonville and Tampa Bay.

Really, at this point, there's nowhere else they can go, and you could really even argue that, based on their last couple of performances, they don't necessarily deserve to be ahead of Jacksonville and Tampa, either. But, that "1" in the W column for the Vikings is apparently enough to keep them out of the absolute basement. As they say, however, there's still a lot of football left to be played.
