Which College Players Are Future Vikings Week 8 Review and Week 9 Primer

Week 8 of college football was yet another week of upsets. What is going on? UCF beat Louisville. Florida State shellacked Clemson (although that was not much of an upset and shows how bad the early rankings truly are). Ole Miss beat LSU. Auburn beat Texas A&M. Tennesse beat South Carolina. Stanford beat UCLA (a mild upset). Vanderbilt beat Georgia. Arizona State hammered Washington. Whew. Those were some tough losses but a lot of great games.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

There are some intriguing matchups this week.  Daniel McCullers vs the Tide offensive linemen.  Ra'Shede Hageman vs the Cornhuskers offensive linemen.  Jordan Matthews vs anybody.  Eric Ward vs Aaron Colvin.  Brett Hundley vs Oregon and Marcus Mariota vs UCLA.  JaDaveon Clowney vs anybody.  DaQuan Jones vs the Buckeyes offensive linemen.  Sean Mannion vs Stanford.

I will base my mock off the record each week. After last week the team is 1-5 and STILL in the #4 spot.

Josh Freeman clearly struggled and now has a concussion.  It appears he wont play and now they are going to play Ponder once again.  Strange to say the least.  I am not sure what they are doing with Ponder.  Maybe they still believe he can be the QBOTF?  Not sure why they needed to waste 3 mil of Wilf's money on Freeman if that is he case.  I really do not care one way or the other but will admit I have no faith in Ponder to stay healthy and thus, in his long term viability.  I think they still are going to trade Ponder.

I am not sure if the team will make any moves and I am guessing they will hold tight.  It could be that they believe that once the season is over they can get down to brass tacks with Jared Allen to see what it will take to keep him a few more years.  Knowing this front office, it would not surprise me at all if they gave him a boat load of money.  But I think he will go to greener pastures to try and win a ring.  Money is surely not an object but he should get as much as he can.

So there are no player trades this week.

4. Jadeveon Clowney  DE  South Carolina  Jr  6-5  274

Clowney is a beast!  The Vikings are likely looking at Allen leaving and getting a guy like this would sure shore that spot up for a while.  At least on paper it would.  I really cannot see jacksonville or Tampa Bay passing on a QB.  The Giants are often linked to Clowney but I expect they will win some more games and even if theyare here they will need an offensive tackle more than another DE.  So the Vikings get blessed by the Draft Gods again and Clowney falls into their laps.

I know everyone will want to get a QB with the first pick but I have serious doubts about most of them coming out.  I also do not know if some will even come out at all.  For now I will avoid them but could have one here in the future.

36. Lache Seastrunk  RB  Baylor  rJr  5-9  210

Now here is where most are going to say WTF!  Why take a RB when you have so many other needs and still have AP.  Well, Seastrunk is pretty dang good and AP is not likely to earn the last few years of his contract (especially the last two).  Also, Toby Gerhart is likely leaving in free agency to a team that will give him significant carries.  The Vikings will need another back and Seastrunk is special.

68. Daniel McCullers  DT  Tennessee  Sr  6-6  351

Arif will like this pick but since everyone wants a big nasty I figure why not give them one.

94. Spencer Long  OG  Nebraska  rSr  6-4  315

Obviously a guard is needed and this seems like as good of a spot to take one without the talent level really dropping off.

100. Shayne Skov  ILB  Stanford  rSr  6-2  245

Skov is one of my favorite LBs and it is doubtful he will be here.

132. Jimmy Garoppolo  QB  Eastern Illinois  Sr  6-2  222

Here is a QB to groom behind Freeman.

164. Kenny Ladler  FS  Vanderbilt  Sr  6-0  205

I like Ladler a lot and think he could go higher.  But they need more depth.

196. Stanley Jean-Baptiste CB Nebraska Sr 6-2 214

You can never have too many corners.
