For the second time this month, a family tragedy has hit a member of the Minnesota Vikings.
Per the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Pita Asiata, the father of Vikings' running back Matt Asiata, was killed in an accident on Monday. Pita Asiata was driving a charter bus that collided with the back of a construction truck in Interstate 80, and suffered "massive chest trauma" when an auger on the truck pushed through the front of the bus and into the driver's seat.
The accident happened near the Nevada/Utah border. Both Matt Asiata and his brother played their college ball at the University of Utah.
The Vikings released the following statement:
We are aware of the tragic incident involving Matt’s father, Pita Asiata. This is heartbreaking news for Matt and his family. We are here to support the Asiata family in any way possible. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Asiata family.
Our condolences go out to Matt and the rest of the Asiata family at this time.
