We know that the new Minnesota Vikings' stadium is on its way and will. . .apparently. . .be ready to go for the 2016 NFL season. Now, we have the date that the construction is set to officially get underway.
According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, and numerous other sources, the groundbreaking for the new stadium is set for December 3.
Only in Minnesota could ground be broken for a new construction project at a time when the ground should, theoretically, be frozen solid.
The team's final season in the Metrodome will end on December 29 when the Vikings host the Detroit Lions. The Metrodome will then be knocked down in February and construction will get into full swing. The team will play the 2014 and 2015 seasons at TCF Bank Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota and move into their new digs in 2016.
More details on the groundbreaking ceremony are expected to be made public on Friday morning. But, if you're in the area, you could probably stop by and take in a bit of the future of the Minnesota Vikings.
