Which College Players Are Future Vikings Week 10 Review and Week 11 Primer

Week 10 of college football provided only a couple of upsets in the top 25 and a couple of surprises for me. Oklahoma State beat Texas Tech in a mild upset and Michigan State beat Michigan in another mild upset. I was surprised that Miami did not play better vs Florida State. The Seminoles could be the team this year. It would be nice to see them play Oregon in the Championship Game. But with the inherent SEC bias, I doubt Alabama will drop unless another team beats them. I think LSU has a very good shot.

Thomas Campbell-USA TODAY Sports

The game of the week award goes to West Virginia vs TCU!

There were some impressive performances this past week too.

Derek Carr threw for 487 yards with 3 TDs and no INTs vs Nevada.  Tajh Boyd threw for 377 yards with 3 TDs and 1 INT vs Virginia.  Andre Williams ran for 166 yards on 33 carries adding 2 TDs.  Jace Amaro caught 17 passes for 253 yards with 2 TDs.  Sammy Watkins caught 8 passes for 169 yards with 2 TDs.  Allen Robinson caught 11 passes for 165 yards.

Here are some of the top draft eligible performers stats ...

I will base my mock off the record each week. After last week the team is 1-7 and now in the #3 spot.  There is a host of injuries too.  The prospects do not  look very bright for the team to go on any kind of run.  I think the talent speaks for itself right now.

I still think the team needs a QB since Freeman has not had another shot at starting a few games.  That would be very curious if they kept him on the bench for the rest of this year.  That would have been a waste of 2 mil plus which they could have carried over and used towards the cap next year.

Here is my mock for this week ...

3. Jake Matthews  OT  Texas A&M  Sr  6-5  305

I know. I know.  This is crazy right.  Why the eff are you taking a tackle?  I think the value of Matthews is too good to pass up.  I also believe he can play guard just like his father.
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/futures/2013/futures-texas-am-ot-jake-matthews

I would plug him in next to Kalil and have a potentially very good left side.  Also, in a year or two he can move to right tackle and take over for Loadholt who will never be a really good pass blocker.  Since Matthews has played right tackle and left tackle he has very good value due to his versatility.

If Mariota, Manziel, and Hundley all enter the draft then it could be one of them instead.  But I like to change it up just to see how it may play out.

35. Kyle Van Noy  OLB  Brigham Young  rSr  6-3  235

It could be that Greenway is asked to take a pay cut next year or flat out released.  He has a cap hit of 8.2 mil and if they traded him (doubtful) or cut him then they would take a 3.4 mil cap hit.  They would still save 4.8 mil for cap purposes though.  Plus, maybe Mauti and/or Hodges will be ready to step up?

67. DaQuan Jones  DT  Penn State  Sr  6-3  318

I can only hope Jones lasts this long.  The Vikings are going to need help on the defensive line.

94. Ahmad Dixon  SS  Baylor  Sr  6-0  205

I think the Vikings need to continue to try and get better at the safety position.  Maybe Sendejo wil get better in pass coverage?  Maybe Sanford will too?  Maybe Raymond can stay injury free?  Too many maybes for me.

99.  Shayne Skov  ILB  Stanford  rSr  6-2  245

Another LB?  WTF?  We got Hodges and Mauti.  Yeah and that is about it.  I cannot put all the eggs in that basket.  The Vikings are way overdue for adding LBs.  Skov and Van Noy would be an impressive haul (on paper).

131. Jimmy Garoppolo  QB  Eastern Illinois  Sr  6-2  222

Finally a QB!  This mock is whacked obviously.  But I have a feeling that a few players will stay in college and that the Vikings actually would still like to have Ponder be the starter.  I think they will let him play again when he is healthy and then even into next year.  The debates will never end!  Garoppolo is having a nice season at Eastern Illinois and it may even take a trade up to get him earlier.

163. Isaiah Crowell  RB  Alabama State  Jr  5-11  215

I stole this from Arif's mock that he included in the comments section of one of my other weekly stories.  Croweel is the former SEC Freshman of the year before he got into trouble and was kicked off of Georgia's team.  It is a rrisky pick but he seems to be doing well at Alabama State.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000257088/article/isaiah-crowell-has-been-compared-to-fred-taylor-by-his-coach

He sounds like just the kind of back to replace Toby Gerhart who is sure to go elsewhere for MOAR carries.  And I did not use a 2nd and a 3rd round pick to get a backup for AP.  Go figure.

195. L'Damian Washington  WR  Missouri  rSr  6-4  205

The WRs still need to have players continually added.  Maybe Greg Childs will be able to play next year but it is doubtful.  I am rooting for him though.  Maybe Rodney Smith will move up to the #4 WR?  The Vikings should have Jennings, Patterson, and Wright as their top 3 WRs.  I do not see them trying to resign Simpson.  They need to have Patterson starting and everyone knows this already.
