During the game today against the Bears, Chad Greenway ultimately had to leave due to wrist problems. Postgame he shed some light on the injury; turns out it was far from anything new. Greenway explained he had sprained it against the Giants and later broke it full on in our first contest against the Packers.
Apparently, it’s fractured in not one, but two places, and in his right hand. Greenway hadn’t exactly been playing lights out prior to the Giants game so I’m not sure you can say this explains away his down year entirely, but major props to him for refusing to let it sideline him (*coughcough*ClayMatthews*coughcough*). As he himself put it, the Vikings had been “too good to him” over the past few years to not try and power through the pain for the sake of the team. That’s pretty damn impressive, if you ask me- he may be having a pretty poor year (although he did get a sack this game, shortly before apparently warming up for a FG), but you cannot question that level of heart. SKOL Greenway!
There is a slight potential downside to this, however. The team was definitely aware of his injury (it would be, ah, concerning if they were not) yet did not, apparently, fully report it. They DID state he had a wrist injury and I’m a little hazy on how specific you have to be… lord knows Bill Bellichick plays games with the injury lists enough, so maybe we’re good. But it is vaguely possible the team might- might- have to pony up a little cash to the league in the coming week. We’ll just have to see.
