A Brief Look At Eagles/Vikings History

Alright, folks. . .as you know, I've been away for the last couple of days, but now I'm back. For a little bit, at least, until my wife and I start traveling across the country so that we can catch a flight to our next assignment. Everyone's done a great job in my absence, though, and now it's time to get back on the horse.

It's time to take our look at the Vikings' history against our current opponents, and remember, these games only focus on the regular season. If you're interested in that kind of thing, however, the Vikings are 0-3 against the Eagles in the post-season, and have been outscored by a margin of 84-44.

And, as always, these numbers come from the folks at Pro Football Reference.

Total Games Between the Vikings and the Eagles: 21

All-Time Record: Vikings, 12-9

Total Vikings Points Scored, Head-to-Head: 485 (23.1 points/game)

Total Eagles Points Scored, Head-to-Head: 477 (22.7 points/game)

Longest Vikings Winning Streak: 7 (28 October 1962 - 3 December 1978)

Longest Eagles Winning Streak: 3 (two separate occasions)

Most Recent Vikings Victory in Minnesota: 28 September 1997 (Final score 28-19)

Most Recent Eagles Victory in Minnesota: 28 October 2007 (Final score 23-16)

Biggest Vikings Victory in Minnesota: 12 points, 18 October 1981 (Final score 35-23)

Biggest Eagles Victory in Minnesota: 35 points, 14 September 1980 (Final score 42-7)

Yes, it's true. . .the Vikings haven't beaten the Eagles in Minnesota since 1997. Of course, there have only been two games between the two teams in Minnesota since then, one of which was a post-season game. The Eagles were riding a five-game winning streak against the Vikings before the crazy 24-14 Tuesday night game in Philadelphia in 2010.

That seven game winning streak by the Vikings came in the first seven games the two teams played against one another. That big 35-point victory in 1980 was Philadelphia's first victory over the Vikings.

And there's a brief look back at the history between the Vikings and the Eagles. Hopefully the Vikings can add another positive moment to the history when they meet on Sunday afternoon.
