2014 NFL Draft: Vikings Will Select Between #3 and #8

With one week remaining in the 2013 NFL season, the final draft order is starting to shape up, and there is a more limited range of picks where the Minnesota Vikings will be selecting come next May.

The Vikings will be selecting somewhere between the third overall pick and the eighth overall pick. As things stand right now, they are at #8, but that will not be finalized until after this weekend's action concludes. The teams that are currently occupying the 9th, 10th, and 11th spots in the current order all have at least six victories, a number that the Vikings cannot match, so they will not go any further down than the 8th spot.

The top pick will come down to the Houston Texans and the St. Louis Rams. If the Texans lose this weekend, they will wrap up the top overall selection. If the Texans should win and the Washington Redskins lose, the Rams will have the top overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. No other team has a chance at the top spot.

The top 8, as it stands right now, looks like this.

1) Houston Texans (2-13, .558 opponent win-loss percentage, at Tennessee on Sunday)
2) St. Louis Rams (3-12, .513, pick comes from Washington Redskins, who play at New York Giants)
3) Jacksonville Jaguars (4-11, .511, at Indianapolis)
4) Cleveland Browns (4-11, .517, at Pittsburgh)
5) Oakland Raiders (4-11, .517, vs Denver)
6) Atlanta Falcons (4-11, .552, vs Carolina)
7) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-11, .575, at New Orleans)
8) Minnesota Vikings (4-10-1, .513, vs Detroit)

All of the teams in the 3 to 7 range are playing teams that are either in the playoffs, fighting for the playoffs, or playing for post-season positioning. So, the odds of the Vikings' current draft spot changing are kind of slim, but we'll have to see how it plays out.
