The Daily Norseman Mock Draft Database v6.0

New, comments
Otto Greule Jr

It's Saturday, ladies and gentlemen, and with that comes the latest installment of our Mock Draft Database. We're in the sixth week of the database now (in case the title didn't give that away), and there are some trends starting to develop.

We're now up to 54 mock drafts, and California wide receiver Keenan Allen remains the leader in the clubhouse for most selected, with his name appearing with the Minnesota Vikings nine times this week. That's down from the whopping 12 he had last week, but he's still out in front. Tennessee receiver Cordarrelle Patterson is now tied for second place with Clemson wideout DeAndre Hopkins, both of whom appear six times this week. I would expect that Patterson's number will continue to decrease in our database, as the prevailing wisdom is starting to become that he's not going to make it to Minnesota's spot at #23.

We have three players making their debut in the database this week. The biggest splash was made by. . .here we go. . .Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o, who appears in our database three times this week after not being there at all previously. Louisiana State linebacker Kevin Minter and Washington cornerback Desmond Trufant also appear in the database this week for the first time, as they both show up one time each.

Leaving the database this week is Alabama offensive lineman Chance Warmack, who had a one-week cameo in last week's update.

Overall, of the 54 mocks listed, wide receiver is still the clear position of choice, being mocked to the Vikings in 29 of those 54 drafts (53.7%). Defensive tackle is still in second place with 17 picks (31.5%), the linebacker spot jumps into third place with five selections (9.3%), and cornerback is bringing up the rear with three selections (5.6%).

Through the first six weeks we've done this, 25 different players have been projected to the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Of those 25 players, 19 of them appear in this week's update.

With that, here is the database for this week. I've put mocks from the various SB Nation sites that are doing them ahead of the mocks from other places around the internet.

Now we move on to our charts, which I've had to alter a little bit. The color coding for some of the players has changed from the last run because. . .well, because when I added the new players in it went and changed some of the color coding on the graphs and, frankly, I don't know how to make it not do that. (Hopefully there won't be too many new names. . .there are only so many colors in Excel.) So, while an individual player's color might change occasionally from here on out, the player groups will still be in the same colors:

Wide receivers - Various shades of blue
Defensive tackles - Various shades of red
Defensive backs - Various shades of green
Linebackers - Various yellows and oranges
Offensive linemen - Various shades of purple

So, here is your donut chart for this week, and you can see that the blue is still pretty much overpowering the rest of the graph at this point. As always, click on the chart to embiggen.

And here are your trends, where you can see the slow decline of Cordarelle Patterson and the rise of a few other players, notably Keenan Allen and DeAndre Hopkins. Click to embiggen this one as well.

So there you have your Mock Draft Database for this week, ladies and gentlemen. Tune in again next week when we'll (likely) have more mocks included, and we'll see how things change after the events of the Scouting Combine.
