As they've done the past couple of years, the folks from EA Sports have put the choice of who will grace the cover of the latest installment of the Madden NFL series up for a vote. That voting started yesterday, with the brackets located at ESPN.com.
Last year's tournament had 64 players in it, with two representatives from each team. This year's tournament also has 64 names, but in a bit of a different set-up. In honor of the 25th anniversary of the Madden NFL series, there is an "Old School" bracket and a "New School" bracket, with the winners of each side facing off in the finale. Each team has a player on each side of the bracket.
As you would expect, running back Adrian Peterson is the team's representative on the "New School" side of things. He's one of the two #2 seeds on that side of the bracket, along with Indianapolis Colts' quarterback Andrew Luck (the #1 seeds are San Francisco 49ers' quarterback Colin Kaepernick and Washington Redskins' quarterback Robert Griffin III). In the first round, Peterson is doing battle with Oakland Raiders' quarterback Carson Palmer.
On the "Old School" side, the Vikings are represented by Hall of Fame defensive tackle John Randle. He's a #8 seed on that side of the bracket, and in the first round he is taking on former Tennessee Titans' running back Eddie George. It looks to be a short tournament for whoever wins that match-up, though. . .they'll likely have to take on Jerry Rice in the second round.
As always, if you want to see a member of the Vikings advance. . .of, if you believe strongly enough in the "Madden Curse" that you don't want them to advance. . .head on over and cast your vote.
