John Carlson was the Minnesota Vikings' "big name" free agent acquisition leading up to the 2012 NFL season. . .and he was pretty much a flop, dealing with injuries throughout the year and caught just eight passes for 43 yards for the season.
Carlson was going to account for about a $4 million cap hit in 2013, but according to 1500 ESPN, Carlson has agreed to restructure his deal. You can read the article right here. According to Tom Pelissero, Carlson will get his $1.2 million of guaranteed money, and will be able to make up the rest of what would have been his base salary for this season in incentives. (That's what's being reported, anyway. If the details firm up down the track, we'll update this story for you to reflect that.)
Don't know full details, but I'm told John Carlson still gets his $1.2M guarantee and can earn up to $3M this year via workouts, incentives.

It's shaping up to be an interesting day for the Vikings, with the Percy Harvin trade becoming official and the Chicago Bears apparently being interested in Phil Loadholt. We'll have to see how things shape up over the course of the day today.
