Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament: Nominations Closed

New, comments

Okay, ladies and gentlemen. . .it's slightly earlier than advertised, but we have a story coming up that I want to have as our major focus today, and I'm going to get this out of the way before it goes up here.

The nominations for our Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament have officially closed. Over the course of the past (nearly) three days, our community nominated 146 people from Minnesota Vikings history, and gave them nearly seven thousand recommendations. I'm in the process of putting the field together and sending it to our graphics person, and we should have that put together by tomorrow. I don't want to give away everything, but I will let a couple of items out of the bag.

-Not surprisingly, Adrian Peterson wound up being the #1 overall seed, with a total of 174 recs being given to his nomination. The other three #1 seeds are Cris Carter (159), Fran Tarkenton (155), and Bud Grant (154).

-There will be a "play-in" game that we will probably do tomorrow. . .and, in true wrestling-inspired fashion, it will be a three-way dance for the last spot in the tournament (and the right to, in all likelihood, get destroyed by Adrian Peterson).

-Twenty-two individuals managed to accumulate more than 100 recs, which is pretty impressive.

So, I'll leave you with those numbers to chew on for now. Thanks once again to everyone for participating in setting the field for our Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament. . .remember, the "play-in" game will happen on Friday, and the big tournament itself kicks off on Monday!
