Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament: (1) Adrian Peterson vs (16) Ed Sharockman

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, even the weekend won't stop us in our quest to find who the the best ever to wear the purple was, as our Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament continues on! Our first of today's two match-ups gives us the man that is currently the king of the NFL mountain against a man that has already had to win a match-up in order to get here.

Adrian Peterson

Alma Mater: University of Oklahoma
Acquired by Vikings: Round 1, 2007 NFL Draft
Seasons in Minnesota: 6 (2007-2012)
Position: Running back

There really aren't a lot of things that can be said about Adrian Peterson that haven't been said already. Through just six seasons as a member of the Vikings, he already leads the team in every significant rushing category with 8,849 career yards (already more than 2,000 yards clear of Robert Smith, who stands in second place) and 76 touchdowns. He's a five-time NFL All-Pro (every year except 2011), a two-time NFL rushing champion, a two-time NFL Offensive Player of the Year, a former NFL Rookie of the Year, holder of the NFL's single-game rushing record with 296 yards against the Chargers on 5 November 2007, and he's the reigning Most Valuable Player. If he can stay healthy, he truly has a chance to establish himself among the all-time greats at his position, and in the sport overall.

Just a heads-up. . .the actual football highlights stop at about the 6:30 mark of the video.

Ed Sharockman

Alma Mater: University of Pittsburgh
Acquired by Vikings: Round 5, 1961 NFL Draft
Seasons in Minnesota: 13 (1961 - 1972)
Position: Cornerback

Sharockman reached this point in the tournament by surviving a play-in game against Kyle Rudolph and Stu Voigt. One of the original Vikings, Sharockman started 121 of his 142 National Football League games. His 40 career interceptions rank him third all-time in Minnesota Vikings history behind Paul Krause and Bobby Bryant, and he was the starting right cornerback for the Vikings' 1969 NFL Championship squad. He scored a total of six touchdowns in his Vikings career.

Here's a review of how the voting process works, folks.

-If you want to vote for Adrian Peterson, rec the comment that says, "Vote - Adrian Peterson"
-If you want to vote for Ed Sharockman, rec the comment that says, "Vote - Ed Sharockman"

Don't rec both comments. . .we're on the honor system here, folks. Although I don't know why you'd rec both anyway. . .you'd end up just canceling yourself out.

Please do not reply to either of the top two comments. . .if you want to debate or make your case or what have you, feel free to do so underneath those top two comments. Remember. . .only recs count, so make sure that's how you register your vote.

The voting will remain open until 8 AM Central time tomorrow, at which point the next two match-ups will be posted.

Have at it, everybody!
