Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament: (1) Cris Carter vs (16) John Sullivan

We continue on in our quest to find the greatest player in the history of our favorite football team, as our Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament continues! This first round match-up pits the most recent member of the Minnesota Vikings to find his way to the Hall of Fame against the man that anchors the offensive line for the current edition of the team.

Cris Carter

Alma Mater: The. . .dramatic pause. . .Ohio State University
Acquired by Minnesota: Acquired on waivers prior to the 1990 season
Seasons in Minnesota: 12 (1990-2001)
Position: Wide receiver

The waiver claim the Vikings put in on Cris Carter likely represents the smartest $100 the Minnesota Vikings franchise has ever spent. He leads the Minnesota Vikings in every significant receiving category, having hauled in 1,004 passes for 12,383 yards and 110 touchdowns. (Yes, those are just his numbers as a member of the Vikings.) Rated by the NFL Network as having the best pair of hands in the history of the league and possibly the best "boundary receiver" the league has ever known thanks to his ability to use the sidelines, Cris Carter is truly among the all-time greats. After being passed over a ridiculous five times, Carter will finally be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August.

John Sullivan

Alma Mater: University of Notre Dame
Acquired by Minnesota: Round 6, 2008 NFL Draft
Seasons in Minnesota: 5 (2008-2012)
Position: Center

John Sullivan has continued the tradition of fine center play for the Minnesota Vikings, following in the steps of men such as Mick Tingelhoff, Jeff Christy, and Matt Birk. After Birk's departure following the 2008 season, Sullivan stepped in as the center for the team that went to the 2009 NFC Championship Game, and has worked hard enough to now be ranked among the elite centers in the National Football League. Oh, and in case you missed the story from a week ago or so, he's a heck of a guy off the field as well.

No John Sullivan highlight videos on YouTube. . .so, hey, there's John Sullivan and Christian Ponder fishing.

Here's a review of how the voting process works, folks.

-If you want to vote for Cris Carter, rec the comment that says, "Vote - Cris Carter"
-If you want to vote for John Sullivan, rec the comment that says, "Vote - John Sullivan"

Don't rec both comments. . .we're on the honor system here, folks. Although I don't know why you'd rec both anyway. . .you'd end up just canceling yourself out.

Please do not reply to either of the top two comments. . .if you want to debate or make your case or what have you, feel free to do so underneath those top two comments. Remember. . .only recs count, so make sure that's how you register your vote.

The voting will remain open until 8 AM Central time tomorrow, at which point the next two match-ups will be posted.

Have at it, everybody!
