Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament: (8) Matt Blair vs (9) Gary Anderson

We're down to the last four first round match-ups in our Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament, ladies and gentlemen! After our two match-ups today and the two we have in store for tomorrow, the Round of 32 will be set, and we'll get that started on Monday. This match-ups pits the most recent member of the Minnesota Vikings Ring of Honor against a man that Vikings fans know as being. . .well, almost perfect.

Matt Blair

Alma Mater: Iowa State University
Acquired by Vikings: Round 2, 1974 NFL Draft
Seasons in Minnesota: 12 (1974-1985)
Position: Linebacker

Matt Blair was inducted into the Minnesota Vikings Ring of Honor in 2012, and most deservedly so. Playing all 12 of his NFL seasons in purple and gold, Blair made the NFL's All-Rookie team in 1975, and followed that up with six consecutive Pro Bowl appearances, starting in 1977. He was also named an All-Pro in 1980. Primarily known as an outstanding linebacker, Blair was a huge force on special teams as well, as he currently stands third in NFL history with 20 blocked kicks. He also collected 16 interceptions in his Minnesota career. A great all-around linebacker, Blair was one of the cornerstones of the Vikings' defense of the late 70s and early 80s.

Gary Anderson

Acquired by Vikings: Signed as free agent before 1998 season
Seasons in Minnesota: 5 (1998-2002)
Position: Kicker

When Vikings fans hear the name Gary Anderson, their minds. . .understandably. . .go to one particular moment in time. But people forget that the South African native had a pretty decent run in Minnesota overall. In addition to his 1998 season where he was perfect during the regular season, Anderson converted 22 of 23 field goals in 2000 as the Vikings made another push to the NFC Championship Game. Overall, he's fourth in Vikings' history in field goal percentage with a conversion rate of 84.5%.
