Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament: Fran Tarkenton Advances

Malcolm Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Keith Millard's arms might be more powerful than the guns carried by members of your local police department. . .or so the story goes. . .but his arms were no match for the best quarterback in the history of the Minnesota Vikings.

In their second round match-up in our Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament, Fran Tarkenton had a relatively easy time getting pass Millard and into the Sweet 16. When the votes were all counted up, Sir Francis managed to accumulate 181 "recs," while Millard got just 13 "recs" from the Daily Norseman faithful. When you held every meaningful NFL passing record for years, it's tough to argue that you weren't one of the best, and Tarkenton certainly was that. That's why he's a #1 seed in our tournament, and why he moves on to the next round.

In the next round of our tournament, it's a guarantee that Tarkenton will be taking on a very large, angry man. We just don't know whether that large, angry man will be defensive tackle Kevin Williams or tight end Jim Kleinsasser. That battle will take place on Wednesday, July 24.

Thanks to everyone that has participated in the voting thus far, folks! Keep your eyes peeled for more match-ups and other good stuff from our Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament!
