Sharrif Floyd Signs With Minnesota Vikings

Despite his ridiculously short arms, Sharrif Floyd was able to sign his rookie contract on Thursday. (Hope the sarcasm came through on that okay.)

Well, they took until the very last minute to get it done, but to the surprise of nobody, rookie defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd signed his rookie contract with the Minnesota Vikings today. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately available.

Floyd, who was selected by the Vikings with the 23rd overall selection this past April, was widely believed to be the best defensive tackle in this year's draft for most of the off-season process, and was projected by some to go as high as #3 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft, which would have made him the first defensive player off the board. However, he slid down the board on draft night, and fell to a place where the Vikings simply could not pass him up.

Floyd has not been immediately penciled in as the starter, but rest assured, he will see plenty of snaps this season as part of the Vikings' defensive line rotation, and appears to be the heir apparent to Kevin Williams, who is in the last year of his contract.

Congratulations, Sharrif, and welcome to Minnesota!
